One Emptied appartment, One Major car Crash, One quick bus journey, one long ass wait in a airport, one sleepy flight and a CONFUSING train ride and we're finally here....
Everything leading up to this in the past few days almost made it seem like fate had a different plan for us and we were trying to fight it!!!but as soon as our plane touched down on the brussels runway, not even the rain outside could bring us down no longer...our trip had began and no amount of bad luck was gonna keep us back....it had begun...Once we landed though we came to two conclusions...
1-----My bag was WAY to full.......and summit was gonna have to change that if we intended on making it as far as turkey.....
2-----How the hell could we get out of the airport....
We managed to take the lift to many wrong floors before finally admitting defeat and attempting to speak some broken french in an effort to find out how to get a train of some sort...turns out, these folks have taken on english pretty welll..sweet...So finally we get a train ticket to thet city centre--problem...??yes,,,,where on the ticket did it
The Grand Place..
To think we only just stumbled upon this place..not on the map....lucky... saay which train exactly were we to take???hmmm..the answer to that would be nowhere....so jamsie being the ever so intelligent chap that he is takes a good ole guess and decides we'll wait for the train the majority of the people will get on...surely that'll get us to the centre???..hmmm...so we did...of course then we didn't exactly know what part of the city we should get off at for the hostel..oh well we go for the second one and hope for the best...Arriving in the centre of the city with huge bags on our back(shoulders already aching) and without a notion of what way to turn....TAXI ANYONE???oh yes please...so a heavy 12 euro later and we get here....now, its 9 in the morning we haven't slept in day or two, and the beds that lay before us are very inviting but no...we take the initiative and embrace the city...
We quickly realised we weren't all that far from the train station to begin with, the driver merely drove round in a mighty big circle to drain us of as much money as possible( serves us for being idiotic tourist and not getting a proper map or some for of
All Cleaned Up..
Brussels have began to clean up the churches and older buildings here in attempt to revamp the city..and what a great job they have done.. directions before getting there....)...
First site was the CONGRESS COLUMN,......pretty thing really....it is in honour basically of all the unknown soldiers in the first world war....In 1922 five coffins were randomly picked from millitary cemetries all over belgium and it was a blind man who picked one out...It is this lucky fello who still rests under the statue,,,
We then wandered down the streets untill we accidently Came across ________________. A street with all those big designer shops and chocolatiers.....In the middle of this there's a lane of lots of competing restaurants basically all offering the same three course meal for a similar enough price. My god i was so hungry..pretty dizzy and all....
After this we saw plenty of churches, newly wahsed to revive the city...once you go round the corner and see how it used to looke, you can can only imagine the amount of work that went into cleaning that!!!!...
Now full and content(well except for painful lack of sleep) we made our way to USE-IT.....only one thing comes to mind when i think of this, "what the hell did i ever do with myself before i found this place????".....The lady here is
Food anyone??
after a day and a half travelling..no sleep..and very little food..this street....took our breath away...and our hunger,, just unbelievably helpful, words can't even describe how much she helped us to be honest...The kinda place were people are OFFENDED if ya don't take their complimentary chocolate when they offer it to you...or coffe..or grapes...or dired nuts...(i know random...)...she helped us find a post office..and organised our next five nights accomdation in other places in belgium and the netherlands....She even went so far as to ring a hostel in ghent when we found it difficult to book it online, oh and off her OWN mobile also...oh my god, and booked everything for us...mental girl altogether...what would ever of done without her..
We headed out on the metro to the east then to see all those EU buildings and see what all the hype was about and what not....saw the ugliest square in the world...or so the locals call it..."Schuman Square"...however the park across from that then was amazing.,,"Parc Du Cinquantenaire Jubel Park"...Really sweet...
Then we randomly hopped on a tour bus..now i dunno about this thing...i mean for the price we got we really didn't get a lot of the information we were hoping (or should i say i was hoping for, as jamsie at this stage
Magical
Very old...Very posh..Very not me... had lost all interest in brussels History and was adament on getting some sleep..awww,,bless)....well anyway we got the bus to the attomium....Its a recent landmark build for the 1958 world fair......bizzare looking thing really...but what it represents and all that seems pretty class...
Got to sleep awfully early, round 6...ha ha..and slept till the next morning..up at 8 and fresh ready to finally eat what belgium is most famous for....CHOCOLATE....Every corner we turned we were blown away by the sweet smell of chocolate and waffles/pancakes...yumm.....
Odd things i've come to notice about Belgium----
-Well for starters cars here RULE...i mean that little flashing green man really has NO POWER in this country,,,if the lights are telling you ya can walk, then more then likely we CAN'T....cars just fly round like pedestrains don't even exist..terrifying if you rely on lights SO possesively like myself..upsetting i know...
-OOooooooh//.....Every building is different from the next..from an old medieval designed pretty lookign thing to BANG a big tall glass building falling to pieces bassically....random really..
-Secondly who'd of thought mussels would be so big in brussels???,,,hmmm not me thats for sure....
Welll to Bruges we go....
E:U:???
very important people doing very important things...
