01 Two headed statue
This statue was at the palace, he has two heads- he really does have eyes at the back of his head- just like teachers do!! Geo: 48.2092, 16.3728
Ahhhh Vienna, we got to sleep in this morning and had an 8am breakfast, once again I was one of the last people out of the bathroom. Living in a tent is crap. It's cold, cramped and uncomfortable, especially when needing to go to the bathroom during the night!! We drove into town and went to the Schonbrunn Palace- which is where the Hapsburgs lived during summer. It has 1440 rooms and beautiful gardens, a maze and a zoo. We only had 30 mins, so I did a quick lap and took a few photos. The bus dropped us off in town and we had 4 and a half hours to ourselves. Saw a statue of Mozart and in front of is were flowers in the shape of a treble clef. A traditional sweet is the Sacher Torte, so a group of us headed to a cafe to taste it. Instead I had apple strudel- which is also traditional and an iced coffee which was terrific and expensive as it all came to €10!!
We then went to St Stephen's Cathedral and power walked through it, was nice inside, although there was scaffolding on the tower. I went with
02 Flowers and a statue
Statue of Mozart and the flowers in the shape of a treble clef Angie and Nicki to check out some more sites. They are power walkers, I struggled to keep up at first, but we did see quite a bit of the city!!
We then walked in and out of St Peter's, which was also quite beautiful inside. Walked past the opera house. We were going to go into the Museum of Modern Art that had a big Forerro Rocher on top, but decided against the entry fee to see that kind of art. Found a market, there was lots of fresh food, eateries and a trash and treasure section. We bought some deli food to have for lunch. It was lots of little things stuffed with goats cheese.
To save time and our feet we caught a taxi to the meeting spot and had our picnic lunch on the grass between the history and art museums.
Walked to the House of Parliament which was a beautifully decorated building. Then saw the best piece of gothic architecture in Vienna- forgot the name of the building. All the buildings here are old and each different from the next, all beautiful.
We spent the next hour in the National Art Gallery and saw lots of masterpieces- all
03 Sacher Torte
Traditional desert that was first made at this hotel written in German. Met the rest of the group and Nev drove us to the Schnapps Musesum which was great. Had a chance to try a few drinks, they were great and thanks to some previous Aussie, he had butterscotch which isn't available in Europe. Tried an Absinthe cocktail which wasn't great, but green.
Went for an evening walk through the city to take some night time photos. I really enjoyed Vienna and would come back here again and spend more time than one day in this city.
