Everyone heads to Chaguanas for bargains for Christmas, and this busy city is well known for its fabric stores, street vendors and crazy traffic. This day I captured a few typical scenes as we made our way through the crowds.

At a loss for space, vendors place their mats for sale right on the road. In the foreground, the "curtain rod vendor" is measuring the rod for a buyer.

Rolls of fabric are laid out close to the sidewalk. Notice the flowers sold right ON the street! Cars and vendors both claim the street as their own.

Shopping in Chaguanas
Clarification per a reader: "But your caption about the sellers and cars sharing the street seemed to infer that there is no order. While Chags is busy little shoppers market, if the police make their rounds, the venders move out the way quickly or get fined." Janet says: "I have heard that is true, but I never saw it happen!"
