We started out today with a couple of cold showers….humm, does that mean we got up too late, or maybe there is a plumbing problem at the old three star Flamingo Resort. At least the toilet flushed.
After our low budget yogurt and peanut butter bread breakfast, we piled into the musty Hyundai Accent for a road trip around the island. The humidity was oppressive today, but since we are Arizonans, maybe it really was not too bad. How can we possibly judge anyway?
First stop was Oyster Pond, it is a nice little French town and harbor north east of Philipsburg. Did I mention the traffic and roads suck in Simpson Bay and Philipsburg? Well if I didn’t, they sure do!
Next stop was the butterfly farm, which was actually pretty interesting. Other than the lady who freaked out when she thought I was gonna step on a dang butterfly, it was quite informative. An English fellow is the owner and tour guide, and quite proud of the bloody place I might add.
We continued to travel around the island, checked out some nature preserve then stumbled on Orient Beach. Now, this was quite the place
I might add. The beach was packed with clothing optional beach bums which should have been an AARP resort considering the years of wisdom that filled the beach. Then again, since we are nearing 50, we ALMOST fit in. Anyway, no more about this place since this is a PG rated blog.
Last stop, Grand Caste on the north of the island. French restaurants up and down the main drag, too many to choose from. We ended up stopping for some ribs and chicken which was prefect. Getting out of town was an adventure as the car in front of us stopped for no apparent reason on our one way street. Next thing we knew, we were right in the middle of some French road rage. The lady behind us and the lady in front of us seriously got into it, all in French I might add. I was not able to help quell the disturbance because I had no clue what was going on. The lady behind us took off a shoe and proceeded to swing it in the direction of driver number one. Luckily, a dude from a nearby pastry shop jumped between them and broke them
up. By this time, the clueless American (me) hopped out to try and help. I asked lady number one if she needed me to help push her car to the side, and she said why, it works perfectly well. She hopped in and drove off….go figure.
So, meanwhile back at the ranch, hotel Coldwater Flamingo now has no water at all in the showers. Oh, they claim to be working on it, so I guess I will grab the soap and head to the pool.
On Monday we cruised to the English island of Prickly Pear. It was as a blast sailing all day with a bunch of vacationers from different lands. After a few hours of rum punch, we were one big happy family. The snorkeling, fresh Mahi Mahi for lunch and the shell hunting were great. Got back to the hotel, and what a surprise, still no water in the shower. Guess I need to get used to island time.
