On February 6 we arrived at our last part of our journey. Destination Panama and Costa Rica. At Panama City airport we met up with Jasper who landed 15 minutes after us. He was going travel with us for the
last couple of weeks.
After the first night in Panama City we flew the next day early to the San Blas islands at the Caribbean coast. There we Gaston and Britt were waiting for us, with whom we were going to sail throughout the
San Blas the next 4 days. The San Blas are beautiful uninhabited islands with lots of palm trees and white beaches. We spent our days snorkeling, spear fishing and a lot of relaxing. Some islands do have
people on the islands, populated by local Indians called Kunas. Of course we also visited on of these villages, the Kunas charge you 1 dollar for a photo, they pick up fast.
After the 4 days it was time to fly back to Panama City, we strolled around one day and the next day we left by bus to Santa Catalina at the Pacific coast. Totally different then the Caribbean, first of all
the beaches were black and
also it was way harder to find a nice hotel. Finally we found a place to stay, maybe it wasn't the best pick, because when we came back from diner we found a huge spider on
our airco. The second day we laid on the beach, black sand is really hot, Len surfed all day.
The next stop was eco lodge Lost & Found in the middle of the jungle. When we arrived after a long bus, taxi, bus ride we noticed that we had to walk up a hill for 15 minutes with our backpacks. Fortunately
it was worth it, because at night we saw all kind of little animals showing up out of the jungle, like an armadillo and other nocturnal animals like olingos.
After a couple of days we were on the move again to the Caribbean island group Bocas del Toro, the most touristy and wettest part of Panama. We were lucky with the weather and during our walks to the
beach we also saw our first poisonous arrow frog. These are very small, therefore hard to find but colourful and it therefore it almost became an obsession throughout the trip to find the
frogs. We saw many different types, really cool!
After the Bocas we left for Costa Rica. The border crossing was the best ever. We were dropped of at a very old bridge and we had to walk over the bridge with our backpacks through the rain over the river to
cross the border.
