The first leg of the trip is to Panama City. Margaret and I will go to Colon by train to view the canal. We will head to Costa Rica. We would like bloggers to tell us how to get to Monteverde. The road sounds rough. Do we have to rent a car or is there some type of bus?

Bus
Just so you know, you can view the canal in Panama City. If you prefer to go to Colon (I wouldn't) in the train because it is a cool train ride, go ahead (it is a cool train ride). From Colon you can take a bus back to Panama City (about 6.00 bucks) and then grab another bus from Panama City to Costa Rica. The road is not rough, it is a four lane highway about half of the way and a two lane highway for the rest. I must say that it does get patches and holes but you make it sound like you are taking a road in the middle of the jungle. Hope this help.

about your question but you probably have not reviewed it. I was saying that you can take a very comfortable bus all the way from Panama to Costa Rica. Hope this helps you
