Whale shark
This time we were so close we could've had a full on chat. I think we shocked each other, I'm impressed that I managed to remember to press the button on the camera. Our time in Utila with UCME has come to an end. We’ve learnt a lot about fish, coral and diving, it’s been a fantastic experience. We’re quite sad to be leaving and very tempted to stay and do our dive master training but we have places to see and people to meet elsewhere.
We were originally going to get the ferry back to the mainland today but due to an unplanned meet up with a few rums and a mini party back at a friend’s house we decided that the packing could wait an extra day, so we just moved 20 feet to another room in the Countryside Apartments.
This week has been good fun, even with just the three of us. We finished the handout for tourists which helps them make good choices in restaurants when ordering fish, we swam with whale sharks again, followed a hawksbill turtle while he had a swim and a good old nosh up on a sponge and did some lionfish dissection. We've also now logged just shy of 80 dives. All in all a brilliant week at work.
It’s been nice staying in one place for a while. You start to
recognise people and they do you, you walk down the street saying hello and waving to people. It’s now back to living out of a bag and planning where you’re going to go next - it’s quite exciting. For now, the plan is to hang out in La Ceiba for a couple of days and then take a bus to the Nicaraguan border. That sounds so crazy ‘Nicaragua’ - I’ve heard of these countries but never actually thought I’d be going there. It’s like going in to the unknown, I’m sure Christopher Columbus felt the same except that he didn’t have Trip Advisor to help him.
It’s baking here, the temperature has been hitting the 40s this week which has made doing anything a bit of a chore. We’re sitting on our bed with the fan straight on us, showering every now and then and waiting for the sun to go down. We’re meeting Caitlin tonight at The Wooden Spoon. It’s a funky little restaurant that’s only open three nights a week and has two options on it’s menu, a meat or veggie option. Sunday is roast day where they serve roast chicken with mash, veg, gravy and a
Bye bye.
I got back on the boat shaking with adrenaline. Yorkshire pudding (yes Dad - chicken and Yorkshire!!).
Mmmm a taste of home.
Love you and missing you all.
