Look at that concentration!
Hola Amigos! Today was our first morning of brewing our own guatemalan coffee at our rental - it was phenomenol! Guatemalan coffee has a very distinct flavor that is rich, earthy, and satisfying. Dad, Mom, Cole, and Jenaye decided to try the Sauna and had a great time - but they got a little warm and decided to jump in the lake to cool down. Yesterday we bought a hacky sack figuring it would be a welcome friend for our journey and began to acquaint ourselves with it. Amy and I played for about an hour this morning before we lost it out the window and had to do a reconnaissance mission - which was successful! For brunch we headed into San Marcos for some food at Fe. Dad chimed in and noted that Fe stood for iron in the periodic table and Amy enlightened us that it meant Faith in Spanish. The food was phenomenol and the portions left nothing to be longed for. Amy and I split two dishes, a typical Guatemalan breakfat and a curried lunch dish. Cole, Jenaye, Amy, and I decided a trip to Panajachel (Pana) was in order while Mom and Dad headed back to

Pasaj Cap for the afternoon. The trip to Pana was delightful (coming back was a different story!). The boat ride was worth the $2.50 as the scenery and houses along the lakeshore were continuous and gorgeous - overall I would say the trip took about 30 minutes. Our first impression of Pana was not what we expected, which was a tourist trap as highlighted in the guide books. Later we discovered the main strip (Santander). Upon viewing Santander it was evident that this was the area we were "supposed" to walk down (the tourist trap). The number of shops and quantity of goods was astounding! Although we recognized the trap, it was hard to pass up some of the items. Ultimately, Amy and I purchased a quilt - that could also be used as a wall hanging. After about four hours in Pana we had enough and started back for the boat launch - a steady rain started and the wind picked up. When we got to the boat launch we boarded the boat for San Marcos. By the time we took off the boat had 29 people in it and was weighed down considerably. Not only were we slightly

overloaded but the waves were relentless. About half way through our trip the boat made a few alarm sounds - I thought how wonderful it would be to break down here! I think all the engine needed was some fuel and a few minutes later we were on our way. The rest of the trip was miserable! Between the waves and the smell of the fuel both Amy and I were feeling a little sea sick. San Marcos came none to quick! Upon our return to Pasaj Cap we all showed our findings for the day and Mom and Dad decided they would need to visit Pana before the end of the trip. The evening has winded down some now but did consist of some more hacky sack before the festivities ended. Overall...another wonderful day around Lago de Atitlan!
