We spent last Friday night (Kim, Cari, and Tim) in Panajachel and then met Carina, the director of CASAS, on Saturday morning for a "school trip" in the town of Santiago Atitlan. We took a boat across the lake in the morning. Santiago is a traditional village next to the lake. While we were there we went to the site of the massacre that occured during the civil war, we went to the Ten Thousand Villages women's cooperative there, we went to see the Judas statue that they worship (he is always smoking a cigarette and they give rum to the statue!), and enjoyed the beautiful views.
