The Jungle The Jungle The Jungle

In spanish it's jungle, pronounced hoon-glay.
It has been a long time since my last posting (sorry mom) but i will try my best to backtrack through my memory as best i can. When we left the islands in Belize we began a 10 hour bus ride back to Guatemala. The only thing that got me through that ride was the Don Williams cd that they were playing. No, in all seriousness it wasn't that bad. The scenery made up for the motion sickness. We were in a rickety chicken bus driving down a thin dirt road with jungle on either sides. I really think that the pictures don't quite do the jungle justice. For miles and miles there are only green trees and a few palm huts inbetween.
We crossed the border back into Guatemala in the sketchiest customs station ever. I kinda think it wasn't all that legit. But whatever it only cost 10 dollars to smuggle ourselves back. Next we went to Livingston which is a Garifuna village, totally different from the rest of Guatemala. Many of the Garifuna people here spoke english as well which is always a relief. We didn't stay here very long before we moved on to Rio Dulce.

Unfortunately the bus was moving rather fast, so they are a little blurry but they are hiding everywhere deep in the hoon-glay.
The best part of this mini journey wasn't the 2 towns but the boat ride between them. The towns themselves aren't all that thrilling but it's supposed to be the most beautiful boat ride in all of Guatemala, so far i think it's true.

On our way in, everything is so colourful. That is definately the charm of the town.

On the Rio Dulce. The scenery was so good that we forgot to take pictures with people in them. This is the only one.

The main form of transportation is in a carved out tree made into a canoe.
