Budget priced hotel in Gazcue, Santo Domingo
I am heading to Santo Domingo on tuesday morning but will be flying into La Romana airport. I have been to La Romana a few times but never to the airport. I will most likely take a bus to Santo Domingo and stay there for a day or two before heading up to Santiago. I may spend a night in Jarabacoa as well. I would like to shoot some video in Jarabacoa as I have never been there.

I need to call my buddy geremia fromtaxi dominicano . He had wanted to shoot some video of his taxis outside of Altos De Chavon and on the beach in Bayahibe. If he is available, maybe he will pick me up in La Romana and we can shoot some video out in that area.

Once in Santo Domingo I will probably stay at Hotel Residence , it is a budget priced hotel right in the middle of Gazcue. Hotel Residence is certainly not a 4 or 5 star hotel, probably not even 2 or 3 stars. . ..LOL, but the rooms are clean and comfortable, available with or without AC, all have Cable TV with CNN etc in English as well as spanish channels.

My favorite part of staying at this little hotel/guest house is the location. Gazcue is relatively quiet for Santo Domingo, and is within walking distance from many major attractions. The Malecon is just 3 blocks away. I can walk to El Conde in less than 10 minutes. The Colonial Zone is a great place to hang out. There are 3 major casinos within walking distance as well as a ton of restaurants and bars.

Hotel Residence attracts repeat customers many of whom are now like family. I have seen many familiar faces in my stays at La Residencia. My buddy Louie from Puerto Rico comes in 4 times per year, many times with his buddy roberto. Andre from Florence Italy is there every 2-3 months. Dave, Jamie, Johnny are there every 2 months as well and looking to move to Santo Domingo.

I have met people from Holland, Cuba, Canada, italy, Spain etc at Hotel Residence. Many times you will find guests sitting outside sharing a grande or two of Presidente beer. You will see ariving guests greeted with a big smile and a handshake or a hug.

There is a colmada very nearby for getting snacks and beer, and a 24 hour pharmacy 2 blocks away.

I am trying to talk the owners of La Residence to add a WIFI access point to the lobby area. I know of at least 6 regular customers that always travel with laptops. Many of us walk to hotel Jaragua and use the WIFI there, but it would be great to be able to sit on the second floor balcony. . . . . .to "work". . . . . .
