Hey everyone, although the trip to Cuba ended a few days ago, I wanted to say that everything was great and launch my TravelBlog beginning there. The people of this Central American country are top notch. Although they may not have most of the material possessions that we all take for granted, most seem to achieve a level of happiness that many in the West can only dream about. If you are a cigar enthusiast (I am just budding), chances are you have already been here or will come at some point in your life. If not, then watcha smokin bud? Beautiful Country, Beautiful People. Here's to meeting great new people, and appreciating those that you already love! Cheers ... read more

So, I made it to Cuba, it was a long and uncertain trip since the German railway announced strikes for early Monday morning - which was excactly when I had to take the train to Frankfurt airport... So I decided to just take the very first train (at 5 in the morning, after about 2 hours sleep), hoping that it might not be affected yet. I was wrong... Already after half an hour the train stopped in Freiburg. Luckily after an hour they decided to go on and I got to the airport on time. The flight was long and boring but I slept most of the time anyway. Here in Varadero, I met Gabi who's travelling with me until September. She was in Costa Rica before so we just met up at a hotel ... read more

Well, after the noise and heat of Havana and the endless bus journey,(it was only two hours but felt longer), we couldnt believe it when we got to the Blau it was really quiet, everyone was on the beach or in the pool. i guess the place lacked atmosphere but then the fact it wasn't noisy was great. We lounged on the beach, swam in the sea, lounged by the pool and swam in the pool, that was pretty much it for a week!(other than the dolphin thing). The sea was amazing, very warm, blue and clear, the bottom was sandy and it was very shallow. Other than the little island off Thailand and Cancun probably the best i have seen on my travels.(The South Pacific is gorgeous but full of coral which is great to look at ... read more

So. We arrived in Varadero and cheered up as soon as the coach started to cruise down a long palm and flower lined drive to our hotel the Internacional. At first we were like, "Where's the beach?" because in the one (unclear, b&w) aerial photo we had seen of the hotel it had appeared to be on the beach. Then as we approached the glass entrance to the lobby we saw out through the back glass exit and were astounded. There was an expanse of white sand with palm trees, and then the most beautiful turquoise sea. It was the most beautiful thing I've seen. Alex commented how great it would be if we had an oceanview room and, to our joy, we got one! With a balcony! We settled in then went to subathe on ... read more

Arriving in Veredero was a lot like being transported to a sunny Quebec town. The streets were filled with Quebecers covering there burned red winter bodies after spending their first days under the strong cuban sun. Arriving at our resort, Villa Tortuga was like entering another mini-world within Cuba where beer flowed from everywhere, the food was over abundant and mojitos were easier to find than water, not to mention the thousands of European and Canadian tourists soaking up the sun. Bizarre to say the least but needed after 7 weeks spent in the Andean highlands in wool toques and fleece. Our skin milk skin quickly perked up with the added sun and cold mojitos. The food was nothing to write home about but the sun and booze and excellent room all made for a great ... read more

Hallo,.. Hier spricht ... read more

Hi everyone, I spent yesterday in Santa Clara visited the Che memorial which is actually where he is buried and also visited the site of a train derailment which he instigiated during the revolution to capture ammunition and a few hundred of the enemy. Its funny you know everywhere you go there are so many photos of the various aspects of the revolution. There were before and after shots of the train wreck. They used a bulldozer to move the tracks and had photos of this they were very clever in the way they captured history and I am sure this was all about marketing the whole revolution thing as well. Laura the girl I met from the UK and I travelled from Trinidad to Santa Clara and we shared a hotel room. Our hotel had ... read more
