Being a minority in San José has its ups and downs.
At least 90% of the Ticos/Ticas stare at me. Some good and some bad.
Many people love to ask me where I am from.
After I tell them I am from New York, they all start to tilt their heads and say.....but you don't look American?
And then I sigh and have to say "My parents are from South Korea." It kills me every time I have to say that. Don't get me wrong, I am proud of my Korean roots, but ignorance kills me.
