Hello! Long time, no talk. This week was my first week of classes! Well lets just say i didn't get much out of my classes and by that I mean I didn't really know what was going on in my three classes with fast talking Costa Rican teachers, confusing syllabus, and other costa rican students. Let me paint you a picture... I meet my friend Brandon to walk to our first tico class, we get there kind of late so we have to sit on the front row.. awesome. There are like six other US students from my group in the class too but the room is mostly full of other Costa Rican students. The professor finally arrives and says that there is too many people here and goes back to get the role to see why its overcrowded. He comes back and says in english "okay all the native English speakers need to leave and go to this classroom on the 3rd floor at the end of the hallway" we all just looked at him and almost laughed nervously because we thought he was kidding. Finally one of us says, "Es verdad?" (Really?) and he is like yeh really, you
need to go, you aren't on the role. Neat. So the whole group of us meander out of there up to our knew classroom, disrupt the new room while one of the costa rican girls in there mumbles something about "gringos" and the rest of the class laughs. Hah that was fun. Oh and then we are assigned a reading for each week and have to turn in a five page summary for the next week. Ummm i struggle to write one page in Spanish so thats gonna be fun.. 😊 And who said this was a vacation? So my other classes were equally confusing but I figure I only have to pass and one of my teachers already said he would give us easier homework because we were American 😊. Anyways life here has had its ups and downs. Some of the downs include ( and i'm only telling you these so you can have a laugh at my expense and embarrassment) loosing internet until i finally get up the nerve to go into mis padres room and unplug the router when they weren't home, slipping out of the shower/bathroom down the steps onto the kitchen floor and wanting
to cry really badly but being in only my towel, wimpering off to my room, trying to read my history homework and using google translate for every other word, and best of all, clogging the toliet when the family was gone and searching the house high and low for a plunger ( don't worry i fixed it before they got home 😊). Se la vie. I did kind of bond with my dad the other day though, he made a point to tell me he was going fishing this weekend on his boat for catfish and then he continued to show me some pictures on his camera of some house somewhere ( maybe they owned it or shared it? hah didn't quite understand) and pointing out to me all the different fruit trees. My favorite though is when he walks in with some freshly bought bread or fruit that he gives to me because he is really proud of it. So cute. Anways so i this weekend we had our first on our own rendevous and it was incredible!! We took a bus ( like 3 hours) to Manuel Antonio and stayed in this awesome hostel called Vista Serena. Its
up on one of the hills that look out over the Pacific and the porch has all kinds of hammocks and seating to hang out all day and enjoy the view. And for ten dollars a night, I didn't mind sharing a bathroom with 15 other people who stayed in the dorm with me. Haha we met some crazy Argentines who woke everyone up one night... interesting story but I'll tell you about it later. We went to the public beach on Friday which was nice and had some really big waves which can be fun and I learned scary too. Saturday we spent the day in the Manuel Antonio national park which is a relatively small patch of rainforest that meets the sea and contains all four species of the monkeys in Costa Rica as well as a ton of other wild life. The actual beach was absolutely gorgeous with a short stretch of sand, cool and blue water, and lots of overhanging trees for shade. We took a hike though the forest up to a really nice look out point and saw some interesting creatures along the way. Sunday (today) most of us were lazy and hung around
the hostel in the hammocks or called our familys using the free internatinal phone ( well SOME of us did because my family wouldn't answer any of three phones!!!! thanks guys. love you too!) Well it was a beautiful weekend but back to real life in Heredia and school tomorrow morning.. yikes. Adios amigos!
