My office
Not the most comfortable place to work even with Bears mattress and pillows. Where to begin…The goal tonight is to get several blogs typed up and ready to post tomorrow at the internet café. I worked on saving pictures to the jump drive for 2 hours this morning. I hope you enjoy them all.
I know many of you are wondering why I’m not posting more often.
Our landlord, Edgar sent his wife to ICE, (not ice, pronounced ee-say) the phone/internet monopoly, on Friday to make arrangements. It will be 128k dial-up but at this point I’ll take anything I can get. I like to write at night or in the early hours of the morning so that will suit my needs just fine. Secondly, my computer desk is a plastic tub in the corner of our bedroom. I sit on the concrete floor with my keyboard on a cardboard box. It’s not exactly comfortable therefore I’m not eager to sit down and write. Once we figure out which room I can have internet in, I’ll buy a real desk and chair. Not all the plugs in the house have been changed to fit our size electric cords. It’s the same power wattage but they don’t have outlets with one hole is
Playing in the dirt
Callista doing one of her favorite things. larger than the other. They resolve the issue by filing down the electrical cords. NOT!!! I repeat, NOT going to happen with my computer cord!
Finally, the main reason I haven’t written is that we’ve been just too busy enjoying life to sit and write about it. Well, sometimes being busy means simply sitting still and watching what is happening around us. Some of the best gifts have come to us by sitting and watching. I have become obsessed with our beautiful bird neighbors. Maybe they’re obsessed with me. I had been spending hours a day watching and coaxing our beautiful blue crowned mot-mot into becoming my friend. The goal is to have him eating out of my hand within a couple of months. There will be an entire blog dedicated to the TWO mot-mot’s (pajaro bo-bo as they are known here). The pictures do not do them justice.
Sitting in our bedroom one morning we saw several parrots in the tree just outside our window. Later in the week we spotted two emerald toucanettes. What a treat! They are little green toucans only about 4 or 5 inches. Not like the Toucan Sam we saw at Arenal.
Are we happy?
Bill and Callista watching TV. They´re getting frustrated at me taking pics all the time. We’ve also watched many red bellied squirrels building nests and gathering food from our window. The trick to seeing the wildlife is in knowing what the trees look like without animals so you can see when there are changes. Just my theory, Bill rolls his eyes when he sees me just sitting and gazing out the window. Hey, he isn’t the one who spotted the parrots OR the toucanettes.
In addition to the bird watching we’ve spent our weekends either playing tourist or visiting friends in other towns. We went to another party, this one for a US political party in Heredia. Met some new friends and had a great time exploring the El Castillo Country Club. They have the only ice skating rink in the entire country. Unfortunately, it was closed for renovations the day we were there. Callista did get to go for a swim in their huge indoor pool though. Bill and I got to dance a little and we all enjoyed a good scare in the “haunted castle”. Let me tell you, the haunted castle wouldn’t be allowed to operate in the states! Holy cow!!! What a lawsuit waiting to happen. It was fun though
Traffic jam
I´ll take this over the 405 in California any day! and scared the pants off of all of us. Bill also met a great guy who invited him to join in on Tuesday golf. We’ll keep you informed when he does finally break out the clubs again.
We spent last weekend in La Fortuna visiting Arenal Volcano and one of the many hot springs in the area. What fun! Today it was off to Grecia and the World of Snakes. Look for blogs on both to be coming out soon.
