Crocodiles on river on the way to Jaco (nothing new to my Floridian friends.)
We leave to go back to the States on Wednesday, so this will be the last update probably for a while.

Last week we rented a car and drove to Jaco for a couple of days. We had been there just this past September and our impression was that it was a ¨dump¨. This time was a complete surprise because it looked like a different place. It was clean and all the buildings looked like they had just been painted. There were also a lot of brand new strip malls that had just been completed. There were all kinds of shops and restaurants that I didn´t remember seeing before--sushi and thai restaurants and shops that sell furniture and accessories from all over the world. It was very artsy and even a bit (do I dare say??) sophisticated. One thing that hasn´t changed is the beach--it is still ugly, I suppose if you are a surfer it´s great because of the waves, but I don´t find it appealing at all (most likely I´ve been spoiled living in South Florida for so many years). But we stayed at a hotel called Mar de Luz that had a fabulous swimming pool surrounded by

lush gardens and we spent a lot of time there.

We also went with some friends to a talapia farm a couple of Sunday´s ago. Theoretically, you catch your own fish from one of their ponds and then they clean and cook it for you. In reality, you fish and catch nothing and they go to the tank behind the restaurant and scoop one out with a net and prepare it for you. However, we were surprised when Steve and Kathleen each caught two fish! There were 12 of us and no one else even got a nibble, most often the bait, which was hard dog food nuggets (I think it was actually fish food, but it smelled like dog food) just fell off the hook. Anyhow, we had a nice afternoon.

We have finally met Trish!! We´ve been corresponding for about five months now after meeting through the internet. As it happens, she is building a house down here in the same town we live in. Her husband is also Italian and from the same region as Davide, so we have all become fast friends without even meeting. We kept missing each other on our trips to

Costa Rica, but she finally arrived a couple of days ago with her friend Judy in tow. Sunday we went to a place called Las Musas, an ecotourism spot, in a beautiful, lush setting, as you will see from photos below. It has a massive waterfall and several swimming pools with a waterslide. It is a popular place for Ticos to spend a Sunday afternoon.

That´s all for now folks! I´ll see or speak to most of you in a few days when we´re back in Atlanta. Take care!
