After Monte Verde we travelled to La Fortuna for volcan arenal another active volcano, we have seen some amazing pictures of this place so was lookng forward to it. On the way we saw yet more stunning scenery, a lot of it very similar to the greenery of New Zealand.
We booked a tour to visit the volcano at night and all we saw was a glimpse of the lava at the bottom of the thick cloud, the peak was covered in thick cloud and no where as near impressive as the photos we have seen, just typical! Another example of it´s cloudy before you go it will most likely stay that way!
One of the other local attractions close by is Baldi hot springs, yes you read correct Baldi, I await the emails slagging me off! No where near as the natural setting of Fuentes Georginas in Guatemala, these were all man made and were very posh like an old roman bath with mosiac tyles everywhere. There were 12 springs with varying temperatures and 47c was about perfect, there was another at 67c which I dipped my foot in but was way too hot and I didn´t
Sign at base of Volcano
Typical Central American sign!! Just in case the Volcano erupts! The owners must be happy that they are NOT responsible for any damage! see anybody get into it! The pools all had different themes, waterfalls, jacuzzi and a few swim up bars which would of been perfect if it wasn´t 3 pound for a can of beer or 4 pound for a cocktail, in the shops the beers are 50p, it was like being back at home!!
The day after we hiked 14km in total to visit a waterfall which was a bit daft after our previous night of being very relaxed. We should of just got a taxi. It took us 90mins or so in the blazing heat to get there, and was the biggest waterfall of our trip so far and they were nice enough cooling down in the water but just not the same after the hotsprings from the night before!
