tortillas Are they the CORN tortillas? if they are, you will have to teach me too!! they are wonderful!!! we used to put a little butter and salt on them (when they are a day or two old) and put them in the oven for a couple minutes -- and what a snack!!! Out of this world!! if I wasnt envious before, i sure am now!!!! Keep trekkin!
What the hell... So, I have to wait a few MORE weeks to see you again? When exactly are you planning on coming home Ms. Persia?
I know you love traveling, but we all miss you! You better come home!!!
Rachel
Nan is here and loves all your pictures! They are beautiful! "You could put Maria out of business!!" Glad you are doing so good with your Spanish. Natalie decided against cheerleading, but loves the flute!! And can't wait for choir to start. So maybe Ruthie has found a way to be close by and watch over you! All our love, your family
So envious!!! I need your lessons! I am so jealous of your being able to communicate in espanol!!! we go to Chile in November -- and I am feeling soooooo helpless right now!!! When you come back you will have to give me a crash course in all your spanish lessons -- the things you needed to know most while traveling! Have a great continued- trip!!! Luv ya lots! ME
Hola amiga!!!! Thanks for the good wishes for tomorrow, i`ll let you know if i graduate, finally!! after all this years! :)
love to read everything about your adventures! and yes, i agree with your teacher: your spanish is very good!!! ABRAZOS :)
MADONNA Thursday night Jess and I went to see MADONNA!! It was a great show. When she palyed " La Isla Bonita" I instantly thought of you! You are such a lucky duck, and I envy you! I see you're travels are going well. I wish we could speak to you! I miss hearing your voice! Well we're off to John Nicholas' christening and in two weeks Robbie turns 1. I'll keep you updated on the family stuff as best I can and send you pictures. i'm going to make Gram-ma-ma a calendar of all the "grands and great-grands" so send me some pictures of you! XXXOOO MISSI and Gabs!!!
it's good to see some new pictures. you look great! today's services were very nice. grandmom looked beautiful. jack read the first couple paragraphs of this last blog at the cemetary so everyone felt your presence there with us. everyone was amazed at your adventuresome nature! your friend linda was there and it was very nice to meet her. the kids just got your postcards from hondorous. we all miss you and love you very much. keep taking care of yourself. love dad, lin, nicky and nat
So Sorry I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother Sue. I'm so glad you just happened to meet someone during that sad time that could relate and bring comfort.
It's very evident your experiences while traveling are making you that much more of a unique person with so many wonderful qualities.
Tobacco Caye sounds spectacular - especially your night in a Cabana on the beach - ahhhhhhhhhhhhh how unreal!
we heard the news I heard from Monica that you'd decided not to go to Peru. Disappointment on my part -- but i also know how fascinating Guatemala is! We have some kids coming to Guatemala City giving concerts in a couple weeks - don't know if that's anywhere near your agenda sched. -- if so, look for a group called "Carpenter's Tools" -- they're college kids from all over US - one is from our church.
Now - to more serious things -- I am sorry to hear about your Grandmom. I know how much you loved being with her -- maybe now she will be following you on your trip - at least in spirit!! She didn't want to be left behind!!??!! consider this a hug from me -- wish I'd known -- Dick and I would have tried to represent you at her funeral (not the same, by a long shot, i realise).
If you haven't heard from Monica lately -- she finally found out that her paper was accepted -- she and her friend have to defend it on 7/17. She is excited -- and nervous. And she was sorry that she wouldn't get to see you -- but I'm sure she is getting your blogs.
That's too bad, too, about your passport!! Now is a fine time to tell you -- we've been told to carry a copy of the passport -- and keep the original in a secure spot -- I never thought to mention that -- they said, that way, even if it gets lost, the picture and numbers allow it to be replaced more quickly. Oh well -- sorry I didnt think to warn you -- and I hope there aren't any redheaded guatemalans to be able to use it!!! : )
Guess I'd better get back to work -- this is way too long!! continue your adventures -- and we're looking forward to more pictures! Love you LOTS AND LOTS!!! The border babe!!! (one of them!)
I am happy to hear you are well, I so enjoy reading your entries. I am so very sorry to hear about your grandmother. Maybe she will meet up with my Gram and they can watch over us together! I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Be safe and stay well!
Love you!
sue the fox world trotter, it is with some amazement i read your articles. needless to say i am truely impressed. i hope all continues well, my thoughts are with you :)
Belize is expensive?? Sue, you are missed sooooo much at home, too. I was down the shore this weekend, watching the fireworks for the 4th, and thought of you and what you might be doing for independence day. Live is also going to be playing at the end of the month at the beach and I wished you could go with me.....whaaa.....OK, now that I got that out of my system, I hope you are doing better with the homesickness.
And my, my, Sue, you are taking traveling to a whole new level I thought $25 per night was cheap. Please tell me you got pictures of the $3 a night room, I have to see what that was like :) I cant believe that you have been getting by on $12 a day. You should write for the Lonely Planet or something.
I miss you!! Rachel
USB Cable Hi Sue. I love reading the journal entries. Happy 4th to you. Regarding the cable, it's probably a standard USB cable. You just need to know the size of the plug on the camera end (small, medium or large). I'm not saying it will be easy finding this in the small towns, but if you do make it to a major city you might be able to find it. Another option is to buy a USB card reader. You put the memory card from your camera in this, and connect the other end to the PC. Again, you'll need a bigger city for this, but might be easier to find than the USB cable. Either option should be US$10-20.
Happy 4th!! Sue - You're so awesome!! I hope when you get back - you will show me all your pictures! I think it will be a fantastic slide show!
Take care of yourself!

Great Trip so far!!! I am so envious! And everyone I share your story with says basically the same thing -- had we been smarter -- we should have tried something like this before "settling down". I am so glad you are doing this and allowing us all to participate -- loving every minute of it! we'll be anxious to see your pictures from the rest of the trip -- probably after you get back to the US. We'll miss the photos - but your narratives are so great -- we can manage! Keep on trekkin'!!!! Luv-- me (and the other border babes!)
my hero you are so brave and concious sue!!!!. i've never traveled like you - on my own - and i feel like a big big coward. go on and let us participate. but don't forget to be careful. hope to see you in dec. d
Sounds like fun, or rather an experience! Glad you survived the jungle. No need to call B in the middle of the night to rescue you from those viscious city bugs!! Some good pics. I especially like the beach pics. Can picture myself there with a surf pole! And of course, a bev! Keep having fun and of course, stay safe. Love you, Dad
Hi Sue,
I am reading your yournal and can belive where you are! I am so happy for you and I wish I could get away of my crazy life and experience it too. This is exactly what I like, wild nature, small villages, canoeing trips etc. The truth is that for now I am stuck here and can not even spent this summer with my family in Ponand. I have just finished my 1st summer secinon and now relaxing before I start the 2nd one. Last weekend I had this hudge party in my home, over 40 peopleand it was official end of our renovation!!!!! I am so happy to see what we have done and enjoy it. I did not realize how stressfull it was but thanks god it is over.
coming back to your journey I really enjoy reading your yournal and have an idea where you are and what you are doing:)) It is like adventures book for me so keep writing, be careful on crocodiles and have fun :))
