ephalumps Didn't know that fascinating snippet re the Addo elephants. Interesting to hear about the extensions to the park, which can only be a good thing.
Good luck for your stint tomorrow, hopefully cough free,
Hi Sue. Missed seeing you to say Bon Voyage.....your blog has just reached me so had to scroll down to catch up!
Hope the work at school improves as it sounds as if they're not geared up for you! I'm sure you're a dab hand with the bottle tops though!
Lovely sunny spring morning here with bulbs peeping through and birds singing but then we had a flurry of snow!
Envy you the warm sea......enjoy it for all if us.
Take care. Ez x
ah well Guess that is what often tends to happen - best laid plans etc. I am sure you will still contribute a heck of a lot, cos remember, you are there for them. Still enjoy it, and I expect Xhosa lessons on your return.
successful first blog Awesome blog - definitely got some sense of what it feels like to be there - the statistics are a good inclusion....I..
feel like I can visualize the approach to the school...good luck with your first day
Love Jillian
glad you made it ! Sounds fantastic. Wonder just how much change I would see at either Ukiriguru or Nyandarua if I ever manage to get back. Told you you would be remembered.
Enjoy it all, take loads of photos to show me, take care in the sea, love Hil
Phew! Hello Sue,
Lovely long message, very interesting, sounds exhausting though, but fun too. I am impressed by your typing as well!
You are a woman of endless qualities!
Enjoy the sea and swimming, you deserve it.
Love Chris xxx
Good Luck Such dedication and spirit of adventure is well worth praising. And luckily I also have some pre-worn clothes that I could post to you if you're feeling left out, though you might have to roll the legs up a little! Best wishes - and I'm looking forward to the further opening of my eyes thro' your blog. Px
good luck I am really looking forward to hearing all about your time in PE. We have been in touch with Laurie, whom you are about to meet, and enjoyed his email. It is good to be in touch with people on the spot. The teachers at tshume are hopeless at writing and even paul is a reluctant email correspondant.
Good luck to all three, i am sure you will have a good time
looking forward to the next installment

All the best Hello Sue,
All the very best for your visit this time, I am sure they will be glad to have you there again adding your expertise to their school.
We will miss you while you are away, but look forward to reading your blogs and maybe skyping you a few times to chat. Is there a time difference or not, don't want to wake you in the middle of the night to tell you it is cold and raining here!
Mind those huge white sharks out there when you are swimming!
Love Chris xxxx
"traveling mercies" Anne lamont Hey
Hope you have a smooth journey - John was here yesterday and I used one of my xmas "coupons" - so "skype" is installed and you should have me on your list - or whatever...it will be amazing if it works out! John was also amazed at my level or LACK of comprehension of the workings of a computor - it was a good lesson for him as regards to many of us not having his generations comfort level with technology - I am sure it will be an awesome experience - I am forwarding your blog to Dagny - who would love to do something like you are doing and has the educational background and adventurous spirit to travel - unlike your sis!
XO Jillian
What an experience Lions and tigers and bears OH NO - opps it was hippos and wart hogs - I am quite jealous of your wonderful experience - wish I had some adventure genes, too!
do you think you will go again! would love to send some supplies to the school - we'll talk when you get back to jolly old England! Have a safe journey..
XO Jillian
cramming it in Certainly you are. It still sounds like a real trip of a lifetime.
We were inspired to go to see Charlie Darks African Beats at Turner Sims on Friday. Jack couldn't make it.
It eas amazing a fusion of old and new. The only thing was it was so frustrating not to dance it seemed such a shame and you could feel audience frustration.#
I sat there jigging away and rely upbeat but wasn't brave enough to get up alone.
I couln't help comparing it to you r descriptions of the sponteneity of expression in singing and dancing.
It was reviewed n Guardian and on Front Row on Mon R4 but the rest of the gigs are at cub type venues so the atmospere should be incredible.
We have been quite heavily involved with Anne and Graham. Up here since last night with van as they are having carpets fitted throughout the house and needed help to clear and the Anne and dog need somewhre to be.
So we are cosy in here but it has been gale forse winds for the last 3 days and last night was unbelievable as the van was lurching constantly and the noise was terrible.
We had a little sleep. Need to stay awake for the book group at 25 HAnley tonight. You will be missed.
All good otherwise and looking rfoward to seeing you soon.
Much love
Lesley ( Michael)

animals How lucky you are to see all those animals in the wild - not the jellyfish, though! I hope the latter won't prevent you getting into the sea during your last few days. It will be sad for you to have to say 'Goodbye' to the children. Enjoy the rest of your stay and bon voyage for Saturday! x Rose
getting some STUFF I have 2 sources that would be glad to collect school supplies or anything else the school could use, markers, paper etc etc....you could let me know on your main blog if that is appealing and I will get in touch - just let me know what should be sent....
Sounds HOT there - but it's still very wintery here in Maine so NO sympathy!
XO Jillian
great reading Hi Sue, It's great reading your blog and getting the tiniest slice of all that you are seeing, hearing and experiencing! I am so glad that you are enjoying it all so much. Will you find it very hard to leave it, I wonder? I am envious of it all, not least the body surfing! x Rose
the paintings sound really interesting as does the flea market - your trip is going by so quickly! it is great you are getting to see quite a few game parks and animals... warm water sounds lovely - still snowy and very cold and icy in Maine - Rodger, Scot, Bryn and Ethan were all skiing this wkend....I had class...
enjoy your updates...
XO Jillian
Sounds Wonderful It is great to read your blogs which sound so immediate and a view into another world not so far away.
It will be great to see the photos on your return.
Look after yourself.
rhinos! Glad you are enjoying yourself as well as working.Rhinos can tip a landrover over, so be careful! The children in Africa always seem so eager to learn, heartens one used to the disinterest here.
Keep blogging, H
African Animals so excited for you seeing elephants in the wild and zebra - that's so awesome - I tried to gloss over the part about eating antelope - altho it is probably so much more humane to eat that meat than what we buy in the market...(I don't eat much of it!)
Can't wait to seesome pictures - watched the film "Yesterday" about S.africa (pretty sad , the woman has aids, it's a foreign film) but thought it would give me some idea of the scenery - looks very beautiful, lovely colors, but arid....
am enjoying your blog - but everyone has difficulty getting on it...I thought I subscribed but it doesn't seem to have worked...
XO Jillian
Helping out the school Hey = the crab "things" , wart hogs, ostriches etc sound sound wonderful - what an experience as do the children with the click names! got an email back from Andie in Chatham, 2nd gr teacher, is there anyway to connect with the classroom - could her class send anything over for your students or community? Would you ever want to go back to a boring job after this!!
Fantastic! Sounds like you are having a wonderful time. All that wildlife you are seeing, glad the binnoculars have come into use! I very much look forward to seeing all the photos.
I had little doubt in my mind that if there was just a bit of music you would be bopping away like mad - you just love it!
Keep on enjoying yourself!
Michelle
Impressive site! Hi
GREAT to read your blog - sounds incredibly interesting - is there anyway we can help from our end ie send school supplies, books, toilitries etc?
All is well here - more snow last night and more on the way - body surfing sounds like fun? watch out for white sharks!?
I suddenly have time to try some new things. I always thought I needed a gap year but am starting the big gap. I didn't think I would retire and then it seemed like the right time. Now there are myriad choices of what to do, who to be and where to go. I am not sure going to South Africa to volunteer for a month is exactly travelling, but it seems an adventure and worth recording and sharing. It could have been a notebook, but this is the age of electronic communication so blogging is another adventure.... full info
