supreme court ruling The case you wrote about for law review was decided in favor of the school and not the kid with the banner. Thought you'd like to know, and Matt, AfricanAmericans doesn't apply to south africans, only to the ones in America. They were called blacks and colored in S Africa
sounds rough well after spending a day sitting on planes or in Atlanta hartsfield a wine tasting trip sounds fun, We just got in and were glad to read the last two blogs, but you still aren't saying much about class. Do you go or are they dull? We had a wonderful week in Aspen but nothing lie the globe trotting you are doing, we just ate and drank and saw Earth Wind and Fire in concert. Miss ya
I've totally seen that rock before. It says, "Nelson Mandela: not Jewish, but pretty freaking awesome anyway." I speak a smattering of South African.
Squirrell problems can easily be solved with a swift kick to the nuts.
btw, i forgot to tell you that i loved your "indie album cover" from the previous entry! =) hehe. lol. but anyway, i've spent the last few minutes trying to think of a jacket or warm thing that starts with w so that you could have a "wine warmer" but that sounds gross, so i gave up. i havent actually been to a wine tasting ever before and after reading what you have to say, i think i want to partake (although i've heard that you normally swish and spit, but i say that's for pansies) ;) miss you! xoxoxo
i dont think i can say this enough, i LOVE your pictures, and if i did need a postcard, i'd def print that one off. I think the museum sounds neat, esp since people have heard a lot about apartheid... well maybe moreso in the past than now, but whatever. =)
awesome! Shylie ALL these pics are so incredible! I've totally decided that S. Afr will be my next vacation....somehow, some way.....when I get time off work at some point.......Want to go there again? :)
Keep putting pics on here b/c I love them! Oh yeah and uhhh the writing is good too ;) Haha no I absolutely enjoy reading about your adventures. Keep 'em going!
Luv,
Your Favorite Kim :)
Get your South African friends to say the word "home" as much as possible! Shy, I love the pics...keep 'em coming. I'd love to see more of the inside of your holiday home, sounds hot. Plus South Africans saying the word "home" is one of my favorites. Are you dying from all the gorgeous accents? Have you met many actual Jews? My friends Gal and Sharone live in Cape Town, although of course I don't know their last name or any of their contact information! But they always talked about the CapeTown Jewish community, as opposed to the Jo-burgers, and it sounded fascinating. Keep the updates coming. Sidenote...I can't believe I leave Israel the day before you come back. That was poor planning on our parts.
Hugs!
horses and stuff your experiences sound like heaven and I am glad that you are having this time in your life. Savor the fun and enjoy the classes. You should be very proud of me, Auntie and I did a trail ride yesterday for 6 miles and 4 hours into the valleys around the maroon bell mountains. I stayed on the horse and conquered my fear and even had a few episodes of trotting. I am fine today albeit a bit butt sore, but not worse for the wear and tear. It really was alot of fun as was the fly fishing and my pics prove I did it. Today was a quiet one, which was also a goal of this vacation. We ate out at a fabulous Japanese place last pm., the sushi, sashimi etc were spectacular and at Aspen prices. Daddy played golf yesterday with an obnoxious, spoiled kid of 13 years old. Thats the news. We love your blog and feel like we are sharing it all with you.
nothin' new I remember taking you to Old Tucson 13 years ago and amazingly, you were absolutely NOT interested in buying any of the trinkets they sold in the gift shop- so this lack of desire to buy chatchkes is nothing new. not a bad character trait.
Hi, darlin' Hey, cutie: We love reading about your adventures. The pictures are also grand. Mom and Dad caught some fish today and Dwight and I went white water rafting. We all survived.
Tomorrow, Mom and I will ride horses...never a dull moment! We are having lots of champagne and are putting on major airs!
Love you! Keep those blogs comin'!
Love ya, Auntie

wow Dear Shy Using a hotel supplied laptop we are enjoying your blogs. You are very lucky to get this opportunity and I am sure you are making the most of iit in all ways. We got here to Aspen yest pm after a 12 hour journey, gorgeous scenery and swank accommodations. Today we are going to explore a bit and then drink to oblivion. Auntie and Dwight look great and send love.
Vicarious travel thrills Thanks for the visual tour, Shylie! I'll probably never make it to South Africa, so I appreciate your perspective. Please come home talking like a South African.....that would really make my day! Hope the rest of your stay there is full of adventure - keep your sense of wonder and take us along for the ride.
SA wine Hey you,
So me and Yvonne went wine tasting yesterday, and the people in Napa say that some of the best Shiraz/syhra comes from South Africa. Drink up and enjoy! (Thank you for the promo card! The ceremony was small but good. Miss you tons)
F*^#ing Kids... So I'm totally going to offend people by this comment I'm sure, but there's nothing worse than being on a long flight in between a bunch of bratty, crying, obnoxious kids, and parents that can't control them. It should be used as a sentence for petty crimes. If I were you Shylie, I probably would have A) took the pringles/kite from that kid and threw them behind me, B) asked the people tp move me or the kid, or C) stabbed myself in the eyeballs with the kid's kite and scream the whole flight. Grrr....I wish there were rules about kids and flying. Whatever happened to the utilitarian principle of what is best for the group as opposed to one person and their stupid kid? Argh.
food blog This blog was written to intentionally excite my food senses, wasn't it? My stomach is growling and I'm in the base library. Thanks a lot. Mmm...schwarma...mmmm...farmer's market. And word on the the waxy fruit and veggies! Here in Cali, there are many a farmer looking to sell his/her produce for pennies! Most of my grocery shopping in the spring/summer and fall is indeed at the farm. It's nice to have around isn't it? But if you've never experienced the freshness and price difference, you'd be none the wiser.
Hey Gorgeous,
I was very touched by your entry on the soldiers going to war. The reason why they're probably eating those things probably has to do with the fact that they won't get to eat those things again anywhere from 6-18 months. If they were Army guys especially. It's pretty amazing how young these guys are. And yet, they are so committed to their service and country. It blows my mind everyday how wise they seem, especially when they return from the war. 19 and a veteran of a war. When I was 19, I was at Tulane, and yeah...the Boot, TJ Quill's. Ick.
aww it's beautiful!!! i love the original names of the places you've been.. a cuban place called cubana ;) hehe. i want to make a picture request -- i want to see the inside of your new home!! esp the POOL!! that is so neat =) miss you tons and i cant wait to hear more about your trip and cape town!! =) xoxo
