Good for you! Sounds like you are having a great time and your Spanish is really coming along already!!! Your pictures are neat. I really enjoyed reading about your adventure so far. You should really be proud of yourself. Good luck with the job opportunities. I'm sure they'll increase soon. What a creepy spider! Make sure you stay away from them and the fleas! Take care and see all you can...
Argh I'm so sorry about your wallet, but it's comforting to hear you so positive and upbeat despite it all! Bravo!
Laughed outloud when you said "today is the day I become a fast eater." That's precisely what I would have thought. Glad to hear Spanish is coming along for you. You knew it before, anyway!!
Don't let the bed bugs bite (DOH!),

Great pictures Hey Sara, My mom was visiting this weekend and we really enjoyed your pictures from the parade. She was not as thrilled about the spider pictures. She thought one was enough :o) You have a great eye for capturing the beauty of the city. I hope you find some more regular work soon!
Wow Sara-sounds like an adventure over there, Brayden is our adventure here, he is 13lbs already and has his 2 month check up on monday-yikes time flies, I wish i could experience Chile w/ you but your blogs at least allow me to see it through your eyes. Keep living life girlie, I miss you
Besos para ti. Sara,
Your pictures and journals of Valparaiso rekindle my love for it. Through you I am hearing and remembering again the city and all its contradictions. Valparaiso is a place to soak up, and I am so glad you are there. From my limited experience of it, a city both old and in constant renewal, romantic and industrial, sad yet lively, colorful and vivid. I can hear the sounds of the city in my head, remembering one afternoon where I sat at the yellow house restaurant you pictured (where it looks like it will fall off) and drank a pisco sour while listening to the sounds of buses, cars, trolleys, people hurrying about and a man playing tango in an accordion. Are those streets not magnificent with their little alleys and houses with clotheslines hanging from the windows? The way the streets weave about, and the colors of the houses are they not amazing?
I am so happy to see you taking it all in one day at a time. Please continue to journal your stay, I am loving reading and being connected to you this way. Good luck on the job front.
con carino y un beso,
-Monica
Dear Sara Another great blog with fantastic pictures. It is still hard to believe that you are that far away and experiencing all of these adventures. I do hope that you are able to sub for a while because I know that you need "new shoes". I would guess that Nancy will be joining you soon to go shopping. Your comment that you are acquiring ideas on your next areas to travel did not surprise me. I know that is what you love. Stay safe and be careful. We love and miss you. Mom
You will see them again The thing that stuck out most here for me is that you said something about being able to say good-bye to people you will never see again. I know what you mean (and I know you know this already), but in my life what I've learned and try to remember is that I met them- even for a brief moment for a very good reason- and sometimes those reasons don't present themselves for a long time. You will see them again in another person, a child, a painting, a quote, a class or at your lowest point. Think of how much richer you are now. How many more restaurants you can go into now and seat your damn self. I've been in tears in the states when I'm completely clueless to what's going on in ENGLISH. :)
I envy you and am proud of what you're doing. Positive job vibes coming your way, Sara.
Bravo!!!!

A bit of everything I hope you have a nice staying at my cities (Viña where I live and Valparaiso the most beautiful city in Chile). In the next days you will see streets really crowded with visitors that come for the national holidays. Lots of flags everywhere and empanadas, asados (barbecues) and red wine. Be careful if you go to see the ramadas, it is something typical and it is lots of fun but sometimes you may find people that drink too much. There is an interesting flea market on Plaza O'Higgins (Valparaiso) each Saturday and Sunday mornings. If you like tartalettas try La Cioccolatta (from Italian chocolate) in Condell street, Cafe Riquet (Plaza Anibal Pinto) both in Valparaiso, or Alster Cafe (Valparaiso street near Ecuador street in Viña). In the night you may try Cinzano Bar (Plaza Anibal Pinto, just below that yellow house about to tumble in your pic). Your photos are excellent. I hope you have good days here, spring is just round the corner. Bye.
You're so Inspiring! Sara, all of your blogs just make me so proud and actually inspire me to go out and travel. I love reading all of them and am so happy for you. We have Bunco tomorrow night...and you surely will be missed!!! I'll try to get a Bunco for you! H :0)
WOW Wow Sara, Valparaiso is so beautiful. Your photos are fantastic! I really hope you are able to find work and set down some temporary roots there. What an amazing place!
I am so interested You have brought back some great memories. I was in Valparaiso in 1968...oh such a long time ago. I also went to Vina Del Mar and Santiago. I had such a great time there and I love hearing about your travels. I certainly hope you get that job. It would be a wonderful place to live. ( My opinion from many years ago)
Good luck.
Esther

very relieved :) Hi my dear Sara. I'm soooo glad that your luggage arrived. I've been worrying, but now I can stop :) I like the Pecos track sweat shirt as well :) I still miss you terribly, but that probably won't change. Sade was excited to learn that you went to Stanford as that is her dream school. Keep sending the awesome blogs!!!
Llorar - y llorar (like the mexican mariachi song) Oh Sara (said in Spanish, of course) -- como todo los demas, me quedo con una lagrima... (like the rest, I get a tear, reading about your new adventures. YOU GO, CHICA! We're all so proud of you. ...And personally -- I cheer you on as you discover all those wonderful things the southern part of our hemisphere has to offer. Reading your stories makes it all come back, I thank you for that. Bless those Andes, the clams, the Falabellas, and your awesome hosts...and for you once again, flipping comfort the bird in search of your path. FYI - next to Vina del Mar there is a little fishing village called Con Con (little transport bus will take you there). I had one of the best meals of my life in this sleepy little seaport for about $3... a crock of baked clams. ;) Te mando un fuerte abrazo...Te quiero mucho...hasta la proxima
Pictures Thanks for adding the pictures to your blog. I guess it is a reality that you are really in Chile now!! The pictures are magnificent. I especially enjoyed the one of you with Santiago and the Andes in the distance. Nice pix of your luggage too. Take care and stay safe. Love and Hugs. Mom
You go girl Hi Sara, I'm so proud of you! Dealing with adversity and finding your bags and a "home" so far away from home. I wish I could give you cheek kisses and hear you dropping your s's soon you'll be a local. best of luck always. Love you, megan
Hello from northern WI Hi Bootie Lynn, I'm glad your luggage arrived and you are doing okay. My thanks to Edgardo for his hospitality. You seem to be finding your way around Santiago. Now onward to Valparaiso. Happy job hunting!! Thank you for your phone calls. We miss and love you. Could I could get a carry out order of machas a la Parmesana? BE CAREFUL!!! Baby ducks!! Love Mom
Okay. this is more like it! This post (and the previous one) are what I signed up for; I get my full quota of baby pictures right here at Niver Creek. Finally we're starting to receive reports of disorientation, desparation, and all manner of character-building hardship. It's going to get muy interesting. Foster, forge on!
Si po!!!! HOLA SARA!!!
Ya sabia que solo en poquito tiempo te acostumbrarias a mi ciudad natal!! (I knew it would only take a few days for you to become accustomed to the city of my birth!!!) Quiero llorar, estoy feliz por ti, no puedo creer que visitaste los lugares queridos, ya dejaste de usar las eses????? Que chica tan lista!!! jijijijij!!! I want to cry, I am happy for you, you already dropped the "s's, that usually takes years to learn!!! Sharp girl.. Que rico que fuiste al mercado central y los cerros, tambien tienes que visitar el jardin de los domenicos ( a cute little market), and the jewelry/craft market in front of the cerro santa lucia. In Valparaiso they also have a mercado central (most every city has one) for machas!! Anyway, I could go on and on... Gracias por contar tus aventuras (thank you for telling your story) .
Te quiero mucho,
-Monica
