My Spanish teacher Paulina took us on a fieldtrip to a very very small village about 4 hours outside of Quito. Here the famous volcano "Quilatoa" is found, or as some people know it "the volcano that imploded". Instead of erupting outwards it collapsed, creating a circular fresh water lagoon filled with blue-green water. Ecuador's current president Correa had a special connection with the village, and lived among the Indigenous for many years.... read more

Mindo is a small town about 1 hour north of Quito, and is famous for its cloud forest location. It was a very small and welcoming town, with a population of about 2500 people. Mindo is an excellent place to do birdwatching, aswell as other adventure activities such as hiking, tubing, and rafting. Here are some pictures from ziplining. The other night we all had a little bit of a craving for home. We raided the local convenience store and stocked up on microwavable popcorn, chocolate bars, kraft dinner, doritos, lifesavers, granola bars, and nutella.
