Some of our most memorable experiences here in Beijing have been in meetings with Chinese professionals. A young journalist and photographer who works for the state run (there is no other kind!) newspaper talked to us about the challenges of journalism in a controlled environment. We learned about the three T's (taboo subjects) Tiananmen, Tibet, Tiawan, plus--Falun Gong. It is a little disconcerting to read the English-language newspaper, The China Daily, and realize how controlled the content is. We had lunch with a woman who is now an accountant, but who was a part of the Cultural Revolution and was sent to the countryside immediately after high school.
