A beautiful description. You have brought me back to my year in Georgia, also in 2011. The traditions of Easter were wonderful, and I too had the champion egg. The supra at the ancestor's gravesite was, as you say, enjoyable, and I was allowed to roll my egg on the patriarch's grave.
One thing you didn't mention was everyone returning last year's box branches (in lieu of palm fronds) to the local church and gathering new greenery to strew about the house. Was this done at your village?
Religious tourism in Thessaloniki Hello,
I would like to add that Thessaloniki is the place where not only Roman remainings exist, but also many churches and monuments built during the Byzantine era. These churches such as Agios Dimitrios and Agia Sophia are considered two of the major symbols of Eastern Christian Church. Moreover, Thessaloniki is one of the largest cities Paul Apostle preached during his journey in Ancient Greece.
I have the honor to maintain a website with a lot of information on Thessaloniki and Macedonia in general which, if anyone is interested in having a look at, is hosted on citybreak-thessaloniki.com
Thank you,
Chronis
The ballet We will be in Riga in about a week and the ballet sounds fun but what are the dress codes. Will a couple of scruffy middle aged Aussies be let through the front door?
You should be fine.. We were just in jeans and nice shirt, some people were really dressed up, so you should be fine as long as you leave the double pluggers and stubbies at home ha ha. But really it was a great night, so cheap and the inside of the building is beautiful!

Markets and thrift shops Great to see that you not only took in the historical sites, but also got to places locals usually go! It's so curious that the richer countries often have great second-hand shops, while poorer ones often don't. Look forward to more of your adventures.
BERLIN Camera stolen from your cargo luggage...devastating...how lucky you had the pics backed up...couple of valuable travel tips here. Can't help feeling the proliferation of markets in Africa has ingrained the flea markets into a way of life...amazed at your restraint in purchases!
WHAT WE MISSED...YOU GOT IN SPADES When we arrived at Vic Falls...all cashed up to do all the adrenalin rushes on offer...our cook relieved me of my passport and all my cash...so rafting, zip-line, microlyte, Zim, Botswana...have been left for others. Fantastic you took the plunge...sounds & looks fantastic.
Terrible! I am so sorry to hear that happened to you! How did they get away with it? We also had a sour end to our African adventure, our backpack was rummaged through and our SLR camera taken from our checked in luggage when leaving from Victoria Falls Airport. Air Namibias policy does not cover the theft of any valuable items and basically said this happens all the time! Very lucky for us that we had backed up our photos!
OASIS? Sounds like an Oasis trip...they cross-dressed when we were at Kande Beach...we with another group...great beaches on Lake Malawi...enjoy the rest of your trip.
Hello you twohappy travellers Hi Guys,
I have only just caught up on the news - you really do write well. I so enjoy following your journeys and love you are having so much fun together. Looks like our future cups of tea together will never be dull as you remember bits and pieces of your travels to share with us. You both look so healthy and fit, great to see you have been adventurous in your eating - can't wait for you to cook dinner for us - it will worth a special trip just for dinner.
Continue to stay safe and enjoy the next stage of your adventure.
Love you both, hugs and kisses,Nell and Ian
Hi Guys
Aaron, I really enjoyed reading the description of your visit to Israel/Palestine & Jerusalem in particular. What an amazing place it must be.
We're about to start Semester 2. Nicole D has been great to work with in Year 6 this year and it's a case of Mikaela who?? when someone occasionally mentions Mikki's name at school.
Out of interest, can any random person submit a blog to this site or just friends and family?
Take care, sounds and looks like you're having a great time.
regards
Bruce

Sip a cold one for me! Great shots of Dahab! I'm sorry I missed it....even both of my trips to Egypt :( I did see Hurgada....but I hear it's NOTHING compared to Dahab. Happy travels!
Thanks for reassuring me. I'm thrilled to see this blog. It was entertaining and reassuring, which is nice because I'm headed to Egypt in a few weeks and have been concerned about safety there. This was a relief to see! Thanks so much for sharing!
