Sunday was another sunny and bright day in BA... lucky for us. Our plan today was to hit up San Telmo and wander around after that. We planned our route the day before...take the D line subte to the 9 de Julio station and then switch to line C and ride it to Independencia station. From there it was a few blocks walk to Plaza Dorrego in San Telmo, where they have the Sunday Feria (flea market type of event). It's a huge tourist attraction, but seemed like locals go there as well to shop. Tourists are there mostly to see the spectacle of street performers and to people watch I assume....that's what we wanted to go for anyway. On our way to the Bulnes station for the subte, we stopped at Hausbrot bakery by the ... read more

Back in BA after our Iguazu trip... We were looking forward to spending the weekend in Buenos Aires and see a different side of life here. The first couple of days we were here, it was during the week and most people were busy, scurrying about the city on their way to and from work. The weekends, as we found out, are completely different. It´s just a much more relaxed and laid back atmosphere. Families spend the day at one of the many parks...playing with their kids and pets, and having picnics. Luckily, it was a bright and sunny weekend which was really nice. Saturday morning (8/23), we woke up kinda late since we were tired from our trip back from Iguazu...we got back to the apartment later than we expected...our flight was delayed by 40 ... read more

Well, we made it to beautiful Iguazu Falls, and after 2 days of touring it, we're beat and ready to go back to Buenos Aires. What an amazing trip though! I read so much about the falls before coming, from fellow bloggers and all, and no matter how people describe them, nothing compares to seeing it for yourself. There were many highlights to our 1.5 days at the Iguazu National Park, but the best was the fact that there were literally a million different angles to view the various falls and each view was breathtaking. We were lucky to hit really good weather...in the 60s and 70s. For winter here in the Southern Hemisphere, that's unusual, but we'll take it! It was cloudy, but the sun was breaking thru at various parts of the day. Shel ... read more

Today we decided to go to the busiest part of the city...Centro via the Subte (underground). Some folks warned us not to take it, and just stick to taxis, but we thought we´d check it out anyway. It wasn´t so bad...like being in NYC for the most part. You have to be alert, but not really that dangerous. Heading into town was ok...moderately busy on the subte...we took Line D from Palermo. We got off at ¨Terminal¨station and emerging from the station, we found ourselves on Avenida Corrientes very close to 9 de Julio...a very busy street, to say the least. It´s a tourist rich area...but during the week, there are lots of locals around since they are there for work. We headed to 9 de Julio towards the overwhelming site of the Obliesk. 9 de ... read more

Arhentina- Arhentina-Arhentina :) (no, I didn't misspell it...Shel knows what I'm talking about) After months of planning, we're finally in Argentina! Though I had been looking for apartments/hotels for many weeks, we didn´t actually book one until just a few days before we left Austin...many of our first choices were already booked by that time, but we were lucky to find one on Craig´s List that fit in our budget. Our trip from the states was not too shabby...10 hours on a plane is tiring, not to mention boring, but other than that, no real problems at all. Since it was a night flight, we tried to sleep most of the way. We arrived at the Buenos Aires airport around 9am on 8/18 (Monday), which happened to be a holiday here. The EZE airport is interesting...on ... read more

Just 3 weeks to go until we fly to Buenos Aires for our short, but thrilling (hopefully) adventure. We'll be there for 10 days, and since we're going all the way down there, we of course, have got to swing by Iguazu Falls for a couple of days. What do we want to get out of this trip? Well...mainly just to explore a new place...see what the culture and people are all about....and just get away! Planning for this has fallen on my shoulders as Shel ties up his master's degree. He's 'heads down' for another 2 weeks and then he's free! What will he do with his new found time? ...no worries, I have a long list of things to keep him busy ;-) So, as I plan for the trip, one of the big ... read more
