The crossing is fabulous and one of my best memories of the north island. I'm jealous that you got to do it in a completely clear day as the views must have been even more amazing than I remember, glad to hear you didn't find it a stroll in the park either- i thought it was just me being particularly unfit!

WOW!!! that view from san christobel was amazing! I've just woken up and it's the first thing I've seen so it will stay in my mind all day which is good cos it's pretty shitty here today! Good luck getting a campavan. That sounds like a much better way to get around and you can go where you want with almost zero hastle! What fun!!!
