World heritage listed coastline, Cinque Terre (literally meaning five lands) is a small but challenging strip of coast between La Spezia and Genoa. The famous five towns, each linked by a path, cling to cliffs in an amazing way. We spent only two full days walking between them, stopping to eat, drink and swim in the perfectly clear, turquoise waters. The walk itself was tougher than we expected. There is only 12km between the towns by the way of the train, which cuts underneath the ground in a straight line. The walking path itself rises and snakes and dips around the breathtaking cliff edge. Along the way we saw farms growing grapes, olives, lemons, cane and vegetables on ancient terraces.
