so different -- still the same! I am struck by the conditions and what a different world in which these people. So difficult to imagine. YET - I see the children in the video and pictures and realize that children are children everywhere and we are really all alike. We want and need the same things - we laugh and cry and need love and attention. Thanks for going there and sharing your trip and a little window into the lives of others. I am immensely grateful for what we have here -- so many blessings. I hope you have a great experience teaching the adults and children of Arequippa!!! We will see you in a few weeks!!!
Cuenaland So glad we could help. I think you will really enjoy Hostel Izhcayluma. Tomorrow we head off to Arequipa for the final ´leg´of our journey. We hope to find a place to settle into for a bit and we will learn about our volunteer project with ¨Traveller not Tourist¨ on Thursday. We hope to do a bit more travel around, and perhaps plan a trip to Cusco... if the money holds out...look forward to hearing from you.
Peru...land of InKa Cola We are in Lima, Peru...the capital of Peru, home of 8 million Peruvians. Pete Covell did not like it too well, but we are enjoying our brief stay here, in the Miraflores district. Tomorrow we fly to Arequipa and hopefully settle into a place for a bit. The girls have been such troopers the last few weeks, lugging everything around, but it has been impossible for them to do any school work. Even on the long bus rides, it is hard to concentrate...We are supposed to do some volunteer work in the afternoons...we will find out more soon. Hope you are all well.
What a trip! Hi guys, We had an awesome time in the Galapagos and then flew to Cuenca. Your timely blog pointed us in the direction of El Hogar Cuencenos and Maggie where we have been staying for the past few days. It is cheap and in a good location for everything. Bananas has been a great breakfast place too! Thanks. We are heading to Vilcabamba to the same hostal! What a co-incidence! Then fly from Loja to Quito and head to Colombia before our Visa expires and do the turnaround. Hope that is good with you. Have fun girls! Carpe Deum.
Hey Shari,
I really enjoyed reading your Equador post. It really reminded me of my time there. My blog is looking for some good travel photos. If you have the time, send us some at dirtyhippiesblog @gmail.com or check us out at dirty-hippies.blogspot.com.
Continued fun on your travels,
Heather
Blogging On Thanks Anne-Marie...we're now in Vilcabamba after another long day of buses. This hostel, Izhcayluma, is set up 2 km from town and is absolutely spectacular. We'll be here for a few days, then will make our crossing into Peru.
I am enjoying the blogs! Thanks for all your fun and interesting and sometimes funny blog entries. I am really enjoying hearing about your trip!! Cuencas sounds and looks wonderful. Can't wait to hear more!
Elated en Ecuador Thanks Bonnie -- we're having a great time and made so many friends in Banos; it was so hard to leave...if only we could start up a recycling program there or something!
Ciao por ahora
Banos en nuestros corazon Jody,
Thank you and thank Bobby for your kindness. We already miss Banos and the BIB and -- well, we just did a brief blog update....keep us in your thoughts and let us know if the 'perfect' opportunity comes up. Please tell everyone at the BIB we say 'HOLA'
Envious in Oregon I'm enjoying living vicariously trough you folks! Stay healthy, travel safely, and bring many good stories back to Bend with you! Enjoy!
Hola tambien. It is so hard to describe and detail all of the differences we see daily, yet it is striking that all of humanity desires the same things and is moved by the same things. It is equally very hard not to pass judgement on the things we see (for example how animals are treated, how women are viewed, safety/risk, construction of buildings, etc.). We leave on Monday, March 8th for Cuenca, the 3rd largest city in Ecuador. It will be a long day of bus rides. The next two plus weeks will be bus rides and short stays, until we get into Peru. Our next long term destination will be Arequipa, Peru, which we expect to reach by March 24th. I am sure we will have lots to write about!
Gracias Gail. Nos gustaria tomar un curso de TEFL cuando regresamos a los Estados Unidos (We would like to take a TEFL course when we return to the U.S.). We also hope that this trip allows to make yet more trips in the future. We are scheming already!
a journey... Hola! to all of you. I have read all your entries and am struck by the reality that tho you are all so far from here, I feel a connection of your journey there.....your descriptions tell us so clearly about the people, the way in which all of your senses have been awakened and the places you have seen....the rides you have taken.....what an adventure! I too appreciate you taking the time to write and send your entries to all of us.....I have learned a lot about Ecuador. Thank you for sharing this.
With love, Amelie.
Determined Dunnings Wow! I'm enjoying reading every blog entry you make Shari. It takes lots of guts and gumption to do what you are doing. I feel like I'm travelling with you. Gail

Abrazos y besos a todos-Betsy
Andy Andy, looks like you guys are making great memories. Thanks so much for the updates and all. Glad you are starting to teach guitar. I like your mud picture and I think it ought to be on the board at Costco as "Employee of the Month". Praying for your family's safety. You too, man. Take care. Jim

Errores en Espanol Another woman who is here (she is from New Mexico) was relaying a story about her going into a restaurant bathroom and yelling at the owners that --- she thought she was saying there was no soap in the bathroom (No hay jabon en el bano), but instead she said that No hay jamon (HAM) in the bathroom.....
Muchisimas Gracias! I have really enjoyed this news and the photos. Andy looks very magical and funny. I suppose all enjoy him in this character. The girls are fortunate for the opportunities you have been so creative to design for them in Ecuador. May you have many more happy adventures!
Lisa
