Sunday was a sun day. What a fantastic day to start our ride in Anacortes Washington to Marblemount Washington. The weather was a little cool this morning as we dipped our rear wheels into the Pacific Ocean at 8 am. We had clear beautiful skies all day long with minimal wind. This is what we call perfect biking weather... God is good! We weaved in and out of roads within Anacortes and Sedro-Wooley. The bike route which is suggested by Adventure Cycling Association tries to avoid traffic and narrow shoulders on the roads. Kevin entered the entire 71 mile route into my Ride with GPS last night and it proved very helpful. Ride with GPS actually called out the directions during the ride and those who are following me on Ride with GPS can leave texts ... read more

A day of sunshine and beautiful views. We left Quinault Lodge and drove around the southern and eastern part of Olympic National Park to Port Townsend Ferry Terminal. We stopped in Aberdeen, WA to get the oil changed in our rental car because it kept giving us a warning that oil life was low. The guy at the shop told us that it only had 1 ½ quarts of oil and it holds 8 quarts. All we would need is for another car to break down on us this trip. It is fixed now and Hertz will reimburse us the price of the oil change. Hope to get our truck back at the end of next week. Gale and Phil left at 5 am for the ferry as they had reservations because of the RV. Margaret ... read more

Twelve hours of touring Olympic National Park today and we just skimmed the surface. You could spend days here exploring the snow capped mountains, rocky beaches, lush rainforests, grand waterfalls and giant trees. We fit everything we could into one day. We stayed at the Lake Quinault Lodge which is on the south end of the park and I would suggest staying at one of the lodges in between. It would cut down on your driving. Phil rode with Kevin and I all day today and Gale rode with Barry and Margaret. Their RV would have had some difficulty making it up one of the roads we ventured on late in the day. Our first stop was the largest Cypress Tree and it lived up to the hype. The tree was massive and even the part ... read more

Olympic National Park Washington. Today was a beautiful sunny day as we headed from our hotel on the beach to the Lodge on the lake. We are staying in the Lake Quinault Lodge, which as you guessed it on Lake Quinault. The lake is actually owned by the Quinault Indian Reservation who charge a fee to fish in the lake above the fishing license cost. The Indian Reservation is shut down so you are not allowed to fish on the lake. This really bummed Kevin out. However, you can head up the road and go to their casino. Go figure…We met up with Phil, Gale, Barry and Margaret at the lodge. Phil and Gale are staying at a RV site just up the road and the rest of us at the lodge. We all went for ... read more

We travelled from our hotel in Ashford Washington to our next destination the Pacific Ocean. A beautiful clear blue sky and warmer weather greeted us this morning. The drive along the two lane road was wonderful with full glimpses of Mt. Rainier without a cloud in the sky. There was a scenic view ahead and we turned off. It was at a cute little church whose congregation made a gravel path out to a viewing area of Mt. Rainier with a bench to relax and take in the beauty. The church also made available the Daily Bread to all visitors. There was a man mowing the grass there and we stopped to talk with him. He is a long time member of the church and life long resident of the area. The church was a Mission ... read more

On May 18, 1980, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake started the largest landslide in human history at Mt. St. Helens. The pressure on the magma in the volcano caused the gases to expand and the magma just exploded. The explosion blasted a mix of hot gases, lava and rocks of all shapes laterally from the top side of the volcano at about 300-500 mph. The wind force sheared all the ancient forests in its way. There are stumps still standing but the trees were blown far from this area. The ash from the explosion rolled out vertically in a dark flume as high as 80,000 feet in the stratosphere. It melted all the glaciers on the mountain creating floods and mudslides called lahars as far as the Columbia River about 50 miles away. Most communities in central ... read more

The place we are staying is called Alexander’s Lodge and it is just a few miles from the entrance to the National Park. The lodge was originally built in 1899 and has had several owners who have remodeled and added bathrooms. It is a nice place with a pond and several hiking trails through some interesting rainforest. After a short hike through the rainforest, Kevin and I set out for a day in Mt. Rainier National Park. This park was established in 1899 and was the fifth designated national park. The mountain stands at 14,410 feet and is the most glaciated of all mountains in the lower 48 states. Mt. Rainier is still considered an active volcano. Most roads are closed going into Mt. Rainier due to high levels of snow. The mountain is so tall ... read more

Saturday May 8, 2021 Drive from Lewiston Idaho to Mt. Rainier National Park Washington Nice bright sunny day in Lewiston started driving across Washington to Mt. Rainier. The landscape of eastern Washington is mostly large rolling farmland hills. There were so many farms much like the Palouse of Idaho. This is rich volcanic soil so fertile. We followed several rivers (Snake, Columbia) which most likely provide the irrigation for this beautiful farmland. As you get further into the state we saw acres upon acres of vineyards they were stunning. Wineries abound in this area of Washington. Then there were apple orchards as far as you could see. I will think about that every time I eat a Washington apple. As we drew nearer to Mt. Rainier the weather became colder and the mountain was covered with ... read more

No photos today just a post. We were supposed to be riding a jet boat today down Hell's Canyon on the Snake River to the Dam but as fate would have it, we spent the day at a Chevy Dealership in Grangeville, ID. Kevin's brand new 2021 Chevy Silverado High Country was making a loud clicking noise and thud sound then missing. We drove to Grangeville from Riggins this morning praying that we would get there safely. There was no cell service on that stretch of road. We got to the small town of Grangeville at 8:00 am and the folks at Gortsema Chevy bend over backwards for us today. The mechanic said that the lifter was collapsed which meant there would be intensive engine work needed. All the parts that they need to complete the ... read more

Beautiful sunny day in Riggins, Idaho almost 90 degrees!!! Drove to White Bird, Idaho to meet up with our outfitters Hammer Down for a day of fishing on the Snake River in Hell’s Canyon. The deepest part of this river gorge is 7,993 ft, which makes it the deepest river gorge in North America. It borders the states of Idaho, Oregon and Washington. The magnificent Seven Devil’s Mountain Range stands high above the canyon on the Idaho side. There are some crazy rapids in this canyon. The outfitters use a jetboat and go over those class 3 and 4 rapids with easy. However there is quite a bit of bouncing and splashing but gives you quite a thrill. We saw several rafters on the Snake today and I thought I would much rather be in this ... read more
