Festival of Lessons and Carols "As is usual for such a service, it ended with the congregation, with lit candles, singing "Silent Night.""
Is this usual in the USA, or in New Zealand, or both? I have never come across it in England; our similar services normally finish with something rousing like "O Come all ye Faithful" or "Hark the Herald-Angels Sing". Interesting to hear about these differences that never occur to one.
I'm glad you're having a good trip.
I'm coping fairly well; some days better than others. Having the Internet helps. Unfortunately it's a bit flaky here in Cromwell so I may not get current blogs up on schedule for a while.
Hi Washing is always a pain, specially on a day like today with lots of drizzle.... how are you coping Meredith? I read your blogs with lots of interest. very interesting reading about your experiences in NZ.
Gyro Pita? Nice to read you tried out the lamb at the Pita Pit. I'm assuming it was the Gyro? But the reason we ask is that things are a little different all the way up there in Canada, as we are all the way down in sunny Florida.
Thanks, John

Meredith, I work at Dominion and believe we met a couple of times. Jim so graciously has shared your blog with me. I asked him if you were planning your annual trip to Myrtle Beach and he surprised me with Auckland! Just wanted to let you know I have enjoyed reading your posts and viewing your pics. Your entries are like reading a beautiful book. I look forward to read your every wonderful experience. Your writing brings your journey to life for me to enjoy. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a safe and enjoyable adventure!
Lovely photos Lovely photos Meredith - I think it is cold everywhere today. It is windy, even though the sun is out... but the weather will definitely improve......
Meredith, just wanted to let you know I am loving your blog...you should be a writer. I can hear you talking as I am reading. I hope you are feeling better and I am so sorry you fell, will pray that you heal up, pronto!! Keep up the good work. I am keeping Dr. Wolfe and the other girls posted. I hope Jim is doing ok without you. Becky
Wow, I've traveled for a good portion of my life (admittedly fairly short as yet). I don't think I've ever had that much trouble with a train before, even on multiple-day routes. I haven't been to the aquarium yet, but the next time I'm in the area, I plan on stopping there immediately. When do you plan on hopping the plane?
It sounds like your trip has been eventful so far, Meredith! I've always had a desire to travel on a passenger train, but have never had an opportunity to do so (there are no passenger trains nearer than 3-6 hours away). However, it sounds like LA has been a much more relaxing an enjoyable experience for you :-).
Trip still on? Yikes, I can imagine how upsetting the idea of these "firm pat-downs" must have been to you. So, does this mean your NZ trip is still on and you're just doing the cross-country part by train? Or have you totally canceled the NZ trip?

Yikes! Be careful, Meredith.
