Dear Daya and Alex. It s so rare, yet so nice to see the type of connection the two of you have , as I ve said before. Though I have never met Alex, I have enjoyed his work. Daya, thank you once more for sharing Alex\\\'s inspirational blogs.
Alex,
As a parent of a 5 year old, I\\\'m so moved....
All you have seen, learned from and was moved by from your travels is what makes you so fortunate in being able to pass the TRUTH on to your daughter.
I have a feeling your child chose you both for a reason. I further believe that you Alex will make a great father because you re passionate about being a better husband and father tomorrow than you already are today.
Because a great dad is not perfect, but does not settle for being a good dad. Because a great dad is not necessarily defined by his actions but rather the attitude, the mind set and the passion that drive his actions.
Sigmund Freud said, \\\"I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father\\\'s protection.\\\" I believe this to be true, yet
my mother always said to me, she learned what a really great father is from her husband(my father).
Sounds like you re going to make a great dad, because you re strong in your faith and walk in integrity, humility gratitude and wisdom.
But above all the one thing that matters the most and the best thing you can give your child is simply LOVE...
A friend of mine, a retired detective, once said to me that he grew up as the poorest kid on the block , but that he was the last one to know it, because he was surrounded by such love...

A seismic shift What a wonderful and well written blog. Congratulations on the upcoming event. You may want to go back to those margaritas sooner than later but you'll know when the time is right. :) Life is full of riches and you are experiencing all of them. It does seem like a good time to re-read Dickens.
thanks! Many of us who are born in privilege struggle with these issues. Thank you for your thoughts. One thing to consider--or for your friend to consider. Being motivated by guilt, and thus responding to the inequities, and not the person, is often the first point of entry for many people who seek to become involved in the world. While I understand the issue, don't knock it as a starting point! Also, thanks for bringing my attention to Media Impact, an organization I was unfamiliar with. Stories, indeed, are what we are made of.
Story with Substance It's a pleasure to read a story with substance and passion for social change. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work. Best Wishes
As I have always said....... You have been given the amazing gift of the pen and the camera. These talents a proving to be such an amazing asset to you. So wonderful you now have Daya by your side. What a team you both are!
Love,
Ellen
Think globally, act locally Thanks for sharing the inspiring stories of people working at the local level to rebuild lives after the tragic war years and in the face of the inept national government. Your photo of the unclear, bright future was a great illustration of this contrast. I also love that you quoted Jerry Garcia--he was one of my heroes! Hope you're able to use the insights gathered to help the Nepalese--good luck!
Yet another interesting entry! thanks for sharing it on TB. brought up very pertinent points and indeed can't agree more with you ... the human dimension is at the heart of everything, the people of Egypt proved it through the revolution. Seems your trip there was a professionally motivated one, or am I wrong ? Safe travel
Thank you Laetitia for your kind words! When will you be in Liberia? What exactly will you be doing for the Red Cross??? Looking forward to hearing from you!
I Actually Laughed Out Loud I was enjoying your blog, but when I saw the caption on this, I laughed out loud. Not just LOL, but an actual laugh. Great blog and pictures.
Reflections and appreciations This is a gorgeous photo. Thank you so very much for sharing this, so we may also reflect upon it's beauty.
God Bless You
Jane
Thank you Thank you so much for your help, for your insight, and for a positive perspective on a grave situation that sometimes keeps me awake at night. A direction towards progress is a testiment to the resilience of the Haitan people but also because of people like you. I graciously reviewed your other entries for more awareness and understanding. Be well my friend.
