Après la pluie, le soleil Dear friends and courageous travellers,
We have a saying in French that sunshine often comes after rain. Your Yin will come again. Your blogs have been so interesting. Will they translate into a book at the end of your journey abroad. Helen Keller once said that "Life is an exciting adventure , or nothing at all." You are so very truly LIVING your life. I believe your YIN will return quicker if you believe it will return. That is what I hold onto. Every morning I think about what good things I am grateful for. the YANG will pass.
I had a biking accident on July 20, 2008 that had quite an impact. I had multiple fractures - spiral break - and now have titanium plates inthe tibia, fibula with sixteen vertical pins holding bones and ankle bones together in the right leg. I'm learning patience in the healing process and have discovered how thankful one should be just to have a body that does what it was born to do.
Think of how lucky you are to be mobile in a foreign country. May you journey on safely. I look forward to your next blog. Yvonne Dufault
Good to hear from you! Hey Car...yes, let's do that! Catch up, that is....can't wait to hear from you. Hope the turkey and all the trimmings was great...but knowing you, I'm sure it was gourmet all the way! Let's talk soon, Love, Amy
Enjoyed the red-wrapped trees. Just to let you know that I am now caught up with your blog. Between Thanksgiving and typing my special ed reports, I feel it's been an age since we talked. After this week I'll be available to properly catch up with you. Loved the photos. Take care, Carrie.
Happy thanksgiving Enjoyed your travel log again, you guys are great to share your adventure with us. I think we have been to some of the same places as you have seeen in Beijing.I also liked your slide show.
Keep well
Theo
Dear Jane,
Yes, Carly is so brilliant...it just shines through every word she writes, don't it? We is so proud of her. Thanks for writing, and don't be a stranger, you hear? The Folks
Hi from IL Hi Amy a nd Roel,
I'm so enjoying your blog. And using Carly's emails is a brilliant idea--saves on the typing. Are you at the same school this year?
Chalo on Homes Hey Chalo!! The 'white noise' of work has taken over big time, and it was a delight to finally get back to the blog and see your comment!! As you say everyone seems to be everywhere -- tell me about it! We feel very far away on this side of the globe, so to get your news is, as THEY say, priceless :-) Your news is incredible...I'm so happy for you. Having your own company will be so rewarding. And I'll be waiting for your TV debut!! Somehow the technology will have to allow us to see the show over here...but i'm sure I'll go out on the corner and Holmes and you will be on the cover of the latest DVD!! Bravo for crediting your mom's support...she must be proud! Keep such great comments coming!! Love, Amy
everyone's somewhere else in the world! I'm glad we got to spend some time together this summer! Even if there were bickerings (spl?) about who cooks their hot dogs first. LOL. Well we made it off the island alive, right? I look back at the pictures and it makes me smile that we get to spend time together.
So really everyone is somewhere else in the world -at least it seems that way! I just finished reading Rob's blog or brog as he calls it and I have to say it's very amazing to know such cool people off in the world -its late for you as I write this (close to 2am maybe 3) but I cant wait to see if my comment gets approval and to read your next blog. Please keep writing. Believe it or not I read them everytime. Especially the one from Vietnam!
Your place looks cozy. Its good that you guys have a hidden spot on a quite street away from all the white noise and mindless super sonic speed. Though I realize Im a part of that white noise over here - work is bubbling for me. I guess you could say I'm officially self employed now- Evelyne are incorporating and we're involved with some great projects that are actually paying us. 3 years in the making but it was well worth the wait. Thanks to my mom I was able to to do this! Work for myself that is for things I believe in.
When I get my first million dollar contract -I'll fly over and spend some time seeing how fast the world really moves, right?
Love
Chalo
Our lawyer will call your lawyer To the party...yes, it's true the apartment was very clean, but perhaps that had something to do with the so-called elephant wash? Please note that we have moved, and you can get our new address from our lawyer, to whom you can address all future correspondence. P.S...see you at xmas.
Defamation of Character! After all the slaving away to get the apartment ready for you two so you can get off the plane and just relax, this is the thanks I get. So what if you've been washing your clothes, towels and sheets in industrial-grade elephant wash? What does that have to do with anything? :)
Baby steps....... No, your dad here is inspired to open the wine...but who knows? Maybe he can move up to grander things...and the next thing you know he's cooking up a storm....or boiling water :-) Great to hear from you! Love, the editors
Wow, movers and shakers! I thought all that furniture came with your old place, so you really did have a lot of stuff to move. Your new apartment actually looks much cozier. All the wood trim reminds me of my place. Is it near 'Faces'? The streets look a lot more manicured and less frenetic than your old neighbourhood. Anyhow, I'm sure with working, jet lag and moving you're ready for the first break. Love, Carrie.
Humble Apologies Dear Car,
So sorry for the insinuation (and the typo!) Before your people talk to mine, can we do lunch? I know where some great DUMPLINGS are AVAILABLE....:-) The Editor
Slanderer! Carly is too. Here she is enjoying a Shanghai delicacy, and availabe on the streets of our neighbourhood.''
I am not available on the streets Mom!

Wo yao he Qingdao! Hey Mom and Dad,
Great blog entry.. Seems like the perfect trip to end the year in China. Looking forward to your arrival!!
Love

Brings back wonderful memories. Loved seeing all the wonderful spots that you two took me to see. Hard to believe that I've been back for almost three months and that your first year is coming to a close. I must say that in these recent photos that you two do look more like residents rather than tourists. So it should be a comfort to know that upon your return to Shanghai, it should feel a lot more familiar to you. However this 'old face' eagerly awaits your return. Love, Carrie
the end of a crazy year I hope you guys enjoyed all of your Chinese adventures and that you have a safe flight home. Can't wait to see you guys back in the TO.
Love Lauren
Thanks for sharing Once again, Amy and Roel, thanks for sharing your year's adventure with us! I've enjoyed reading every report and living a bit vicariously through you. I certainly hope our paths cross again sometime!

Panda shmanda Hey Marth, After Carly, Carrie...and now you, I'm thinking maybe my next blog should be just pandas :-) As Craig said, give them what they want! But seriously, everything about Beijing was all it promised to be...and more. I'll bring panda pics to CD day....can't wait to see you guys! Love, Amy
We are a couple of intrepid wannabe hippies -- young at heart -- who have dropped out of the Canadian rat race to explore life in the Shanghai teaching circuit. Join us on journey -- but only if you dare (or have nothing else better to do) What we lack in youth and energy, we'll try to make up for in entertainment value -- or a couple of laughs with us (or at us, at the very least :-).... full info
