DAY 16 My first day in Ireland has been rather quite and cold only reaching 12 degrees. Tomorrow it’s only going to reach 4 degrees. Thank goodness I bought that down jacket off you Sarah it’s been so handy already!! I must say that it’s great to be back in a country that speaks that same language as me and hearing their lovely accents. For breakfast my aunty Joan cooked me , bacon, eggs, fresh bread and sausages. It was fantastic to have a normal breakfast that tasted awesome again! Today I did the normal travelling stuff when you arrive somewhere you’ll be staying for a while. Washing all my clothes, as they had this horrible Egypt type smell and my white items weren’t quite white anymore, and unpacking all my things into draws and the ... read more

DAY 13 Today we said goodbye to those of us that were left from the tour. I then headed off to Alexandrina by bus where I met a friendly local who lived by my hotel and thus help me to get there from the bus station. I think though he may just have been after a free taxi ride home but what I can I say it worked in both of our favours. I don't get lost or ripped off and he gets a free lift it just goes to show that there are some none sleazy, yet helpful men here in Egypt!! Once I got into my hotel I found out that they weren't expecting me and that Shady my tour leader wasn’t contactable as he had booked this hotel for me. Anyway they were ... read more

Day 11: Getting up at 5am Bec, Lauren and I were transferred to our motor boat so that we could reach the west side of the Nile for our hot air balloon ride. From there we were taken by bus to the hot air balloon launch site. It was awesome, there may have been about 20 balloons all being blown up at once by various companies to take us tourists up to get a bird's eye view of Luxor. We reach a total height of 400m and from there we could see the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, tombs of the Nobles, one of Ramses II temples and a few more temples. It was fantastic. You could see all the fields of the locals and their homes. Some you could even see ... read more

On the night of day 3, 22.02.09, I met the rest of my tour group in total there is 9 of us, Mel, Morgan, Ian, Lauren, Bridie, Kate, Colette, Bec and me, plus out tour leader Shady!! DAY 4 Today we set off to see the Sphinx and the Pyramids they were fantastic!! We all decided to go inside the largest pyramid there isn't much inside at all. Just one long corridor where you need to crouch over double and walk up a steep slope to reach the burial chamber. How they got the coffin in there I don't know! It was very hot and stuffy in there and the disappointing thing was that there were no markings or carvings on any of the walls or the roof. However it is amazing to see the feat ... read more

SUMMARY OF EGYPT SO FAR Overall Egypt is a very dusty and dirty place. There is rubbish EVERYWHERE!!! In the gutters, on the street and pavement. The really sad thing is that the locals are the main ones that just drop rubbish on the street as they walk by with no respect for their local environment. On the other hand the people are very friendly and helpful especially the hotel staff. Everyone there seems to know who I am and is very willing to make sure that my every need is taken care of. The traffic here is horrible it's always peak hour and apparently the traffic over the last few days isn't busy at all! There are no road rules and the traffic can be up to 6 lanes deep in both directions without line ... read more
