I'm impressed Wow travel and a great blog too.
This is the first time I've logged in and read what you guys are up to, very impressive and will make sure I keep keeping up with your experiences. Hope to put some pic's onto the flicker site in the next few days. Have chatted on line to Julie but not caught anyone else yet. Keep enjoying. Luv Ann
Yes ! I immediately resolved to email Sian to make sure she reads about Hobbiton and I look forward to seeing film/ films with you ! What fun ! And fantastic photos of Opera House at sunset !
Glorious! Loved everything about this one, even the sadness of the stray dog you cared for. Everything that happened around that, the kindness of the strangers, the extent to which they were generous with their time, the efforts they made to help, was beautiful. So many other staggering things, too - the coincidence about the Leeds lass, studying Spanish in Santiago, the colour of the buildings, the European-ness, even another rainbow to put with the Sydney opear house one! Don't know how you find the time and energy to write vivid (and even witty!) descriptions etc and upload pictures whilst still actually living it all! Love and go safely, Alec
Great time!! Great to see you both, hopefully we will reciprocate soon (in your summer). Thanks for the asleep photo, bet youre not sorry at all! Contiue having a ball, will talk to you soon, thanks for a bloody great time while you were here, my liver is just starting to recover! Janie xx
I felt rested myself reading and viewing this blog, even tho' that's been at a fair lick before class and over break! I'm glad you made time to relax. I'll go through it again later, but I can see how much Sian is going to love this Hobbit-blog! Strange to think that here was where you were furthest from us, when you felt most at home. Love and safe travelling, Alec
Thanks for another exciting travel blog ! ! Great to read about Australian stretch Very glad I'm reading about the bikes after the event ! Reminds me of my sending you vitamins to Australia last time Nicola when in the event you had been flying a plane ....!! Particularly good to catch up on news and photos of Tony and Janie you all seemed to be having a great time ! Happy Birthday Mrs Mcnally !! Zoe xxx
Phew! (5) Hi! This is my 5th attempt to send this comment - the XXX!!X!! computer or whatever lets me complete the dialogue box then when I "submit comment" my text all disappears but the usual blogmaster response doesn't! Here goes one more time - in summary!
Chilling in Singapore, then in Oz with T and J, seem absolutely required, given all the places, peoples, accommodation, food, drink etc you've experienced in the last weeks: multiple culture shock linked to physical, emotional and intellectual fatigue, I reckon! I hope by the time you read this - if the the XXX!!X!! computer or whatever lets you! - you'll be rested, and ready to enjoy everything a whole new continent offers you. Love to you both, and go safely, A
(Tried to defeat the gremlin this time - copied 4th effort, and pasted it as 5th! Cross fingers!)
Another Treat ! Thanks for latest Blog It's such a treat when they arrive ! China looks fascinating ( when you weren't looking down the loo !! ) Must have been hard to say good bye to the group after sharing so much. Keep enjoying ! Z
Brrrrr I'm doing your tour in reverse on here! Looks cold, makes me glad Ive got my fleece on watching. Merlin could do with one of those coats. Expect you're Vodka connoisuers by now (spolling?). Will catch up with other blogs and start following in right direction. ( A themed booze cruise could be good - I'll hurry up with Vodka as you'll be on Fosters by now! Luv Sian
Only just seen and explored your route map - very clever, and helpful. Also makes it clearer just how vast the distances you are covering are. Alec
From Headingley with love! Must make sure John sees this, you must swop vodka stories (and see his post vodka video! Multi lingual renditions by a group with no shared language- hilarious!)The architecture looks from another world. The train must've made the travelling seem more direct and real. Was it as cold as it looks? Spoke to Wendy yesterday - David is in Turkey on business and break, Katie on last leg of PhD (know which one I envy). We have printed off last blog (Karsts etc) so that grannie can see later.
I'm looking at all this back to front so have just seen this one and pics - love the accomodation. Riding those horses must've been something else. Year ago there were Russian or mongolian horsemen at the county show showing their incredible skills - mounts and dismounts at the gallop etc. Did Brendan manage any of those (asks Alec)! Will enjoy looking at this agian at more leisure. Luv Sian
Dice Ouch - that looks sore! What's it meant to do? The bears are amazing, love the chillin pic. Its about to cut off but will continue contact soon. Luv Sian
... so we had a little drink... Are all the beers the two of you keep drinking local produce or imports from Oz or what? What kind of prices? You must both be developing tough systems (digestive and immune etc) considering the snacks eaten from stalls at the edge of the Yantse, your own cookery (very impressive, especially the tossing of the wok!) and the fact that the dishwasher whose business you spurned can't have been alone in using those gloriously polluted facilities.... Won't echo Sian's comments, just endorse them - tremendous. Look forward to next instalment, love, A
Wow! Hello! I'm catching up at last. It looks amazing! Hope you don't forget how to cook that scrummy food. Alec and I are in Headingley library (have come up for a few days to say hi to Grannie and everyone) Brendan we both reckon the garlic toast looks good (must be lunch time). Thats a groovy beard by the way - John had one once. Fantastic to see such a different landscape, agriculture, transport system etc. Enjoy! Luv Sian
fantastic pictures Looked at all your pictures ,they are amazing! i really like the high dam one and the one of the waterfall. How did they manage to get a coffin that high, and why would they do that? Hope u carry on having a great time, look forward to seeing more of ur journey.
Topical Your timing for getting this chapter up is very good - Today program this weekend carried a brief report that the 3 Gorges dam was now complete but that (critics?) said there was considerable pollution already of the waters behind the dam (not visible in your pic!) Do the locks at the Yichang dam work in the same way as ones on (say) the Leeds - Liverpool canal? How big are the boats in your picture? -They seem to have several decks.
This is a tremendous batch of photos in this chapter, with the Lesser Gorges shots, the television man, the terrible geese delivery and cooking chickens, and the individual portraits - not to mention the drenched photographers! Are you eating from the food stalls?
i miss you two soo much!! nicola looks fine but brendan......Brendan mc nally get a shave your looking to much like my dad!!! its scary!! anyway you look like your having lots of fun!! and the places youv been are just fabulous!! write back if you can!! lots love and hugs Claire xoxoxoxxoxoxoxoxoxoxooxxo
missing backgammon! Hi Guys - hurry up and add to the blog! We are in Vietnam and loving it at the mo. Found a backgammon board for a game in hnom Penh, but otherwise, trying to master draughts - not a patch on the gammon though.
Had a great time with you both in China and will follow the rest of your travels. Hopefully will catch up with you in London in a few months.
All the best
Gav and Flick
Wow ! Fantastic ! I love your travel blog and like the fact I am alerted when there is a new one ! It's great to get something that gives me belly laughs on my computer...! (maybe that sentence should have been re arranged ...!) The photos are brilliant tho I wish that I hadn't pressed' full image ' on the horrible fried chickens ....!
What is a hacky sac ? ... have I missed something .... ? Zoe
Brilliant timing When you first set off I briefed my students on your planned trip, and we looked at the intended route on wall-maps and on a globe
but on the day we first managed to get through to your travelblog we were also going to view the second instalment of the video (film) "The Great Panda Adventure". Couldn't believe the luck of seeing the travelblog screen filled with pandas and you two! The images are superb and, with the info about the eating and reproduction habits, made for unusually well-customised teaching/learning material! (Have to admit that I'd never heard of red pandas.)
Surely it should be 80 days in Peking??
I hope all the pressies get back through customs otherwise don't bother to come home. One pressie from each destination plus a surprise.
Greetings from Leeds Wow!! This trip sounds superb, if you can call it a trip. Thanks for the update. The whole thing sounds amazing, keep the journals coming, and get some some photos down/uploaded. Not had a travelblog before so didn't know what to expect. All the very best to you both and take care, Gerry
Nicola and I are undertaking a round the world trip in 4 months as an extended honeymoon, travelling through Russia, Mongolia and China on the Trans-Mongolian Express, then Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Bolivia and Peru.... full info
