Day Five-9/22/09 The Storming of Versailles Barring the advice of the guidebook,we were venturing out to the chateau Versailles today. Supposedly,Tuesday was said to be "especially crowded," but it was the day that worked best for us,so be it. Since we were right by the Champ de Mars RER station,we didnt have far to go. We purchased separate tickets for the ride (about 7 euros RT) found the correct platform (there are quite a few named Versailles) and waited. FYI-If you are taking the RER for part of any route, the wait times tend to be a bit longer than the regular Metro. Alas,we were not bored during our wait.We witnessed a group of young men who appeared to be "trinket sellers" (guys carrying rings of Eiffel Tower figurines, and such) barreling down the platform. Not far behind, ... read more

Day Four-9/21/09 When They Say Bring Comfortable Walking Shoes,They Really Mean It Bon Matin Paris! You are so nice to wake up to:) Since we had a lot to explore,we got an early start. Once again,it was a sunny 70 degrees-that perfect temperature where it doesn't feel like anything at all. We kept hearing how unusual this was for the time of year,so we wanted to get as much in while the weather cooperated. I still hadn't been to a proper Parisian cafe,so I dragged Giles to the Rue Cler block that was so highly recommended. I can see why-with no cars on the cobblestone street, people were free to wander into cafes, little shops, and the several fresh food markets bunched in between.According to the guidebook,Monday was supposed to be a "sleepy" day on Rue Cler-it was slumbering ... read more

Day Three-9/20/09 Travels Along the River Our first full day in Paris! We wanted to pack in some sightseeing today, and to start off,we were going to Mass at Notre Dame Cathedral on the Ile de la Cite. After breakfast,we walked along the Champ de Mars park for a bit, then found a Metro stop. This was going to be our first time using the Metro,so it would be interesting. I had purchased a 5 day Paris Visite pass, which was worth its weight in gold by the end of the trip. Giles had not prepared quite as well,so we had to obtain some type of pass for him.We didn't have much time,so he said he wanted to buy a single fare ticket for this ride, then get a pass later. We looked for a machine to buy one from quickly. ... read more

Day Two-9/19/09- Bienvenue a Paris! I woke up on the plane about an hour before we landed. The monitors on the seatbacks had a map displaying our current location and altitude.Shortly after I awoke, the flight attendants flipped on the lights and served our "breakfast"-which was a cup of orange juice and a roll. The landing was fairly smooth, and we could even see the Eiffel Tower in the distance! Once we landed,it took a while to unload off of the plane and enter the terminal.Like JFK,I had attempted to research a map of Charles de Gaulle, but didn't find it to be as clearcut as other airport sites.Upon entering the airport,I found that the reason was b/c the airport itself is not very clearcut.Maybe it was part jetlag, part being distracted, but we ended up following a group of people towards a ... read more

Hi to whoever is reading this! So I had intended on writing this blog while I was actually IN Paris, but it didn't quite happen.Since I would like to do the same for my trip to London in May,I thought I would try it out by posting my Paris stories:) A little background...I've done quite a bit of traveling up to this point, and Paris was a place I had dreamed of visiting since middle school. After years of telling myself I would go "someday," I decided to treat myself upon obtaining my RN.Three months of planning later,it's finally time! -Quick note-this particular entry is about the day traveling through airports/flight to Paris. If you are looking strictly for Paris info, you might want to skip this one.
