Wildlife in Patagonia: The monstrous character of Whales, and a dangerous game with dolphins The land of Patagonia is remote. Occupying almost half of Argentina and Chile, it is home to only a small fraction of their total human population. This is due principally to the harshness of its climate, and the inaccessibility of much of its terrain, either by land or by sea. As a consequence, there is an abundance of wildlife here. Condors, vultures, guanacos, pudus, foxes, pumas, colo colos, Magellanic woodpeckers, chingues, llamas, wild boar, red deer, ostriches, elephant seals, sea lions, penguins, petrels, albatrosses, cormorants, leopard seals, crested caracaras, pygmy owls, black-beaked swans, skuas, and countless other species live almost undisturbed by human interaction.
