Wendy's friend Hi Sarah--I remember when I was travelling in Tanzania and I was climbing Kilimanjaro for awhile (7 days?) always looking DOWN at clouds and then after I decended, it seems very strange to be looking UP at clouds and be on flat ground! I read your whole blog and feel like I was right along with you. Take care
Hello 'fat bum!' Souns as tho you might be the only tourist in the area. I dont like the sound of those aggressive dog packs - we have a single aggressive cat and that's bad enough. Not long now and you'll be back to the relative sanity of N London.Hope the return journey goes smoothly.
Sikkim - flora and fauna! I see you have given up on trekking to monasteries in favour of taxis/share jeeps. Probably a good idea after the previous day's excursions! Wonder if the leopard skin was that of a snow leopard. Have you seen the red panda yet? What about all the birds and orchids which are supposed to inhabit Sikkim? Have you noticed that the birds are of the slightly brighter hued variety than the ubiquitous pigeons of N London ?
Chatting up the locals! I am amazed that you are able to stop and chat to people in this (reasonably) remote area. Imagine a Sikkimese !! stopping to ask directions in Avoncliff and being given directions in even limited in Tibetan.
Are you finding the terrain a tad more rough than North London ?
Monks and monasteries ! Gurus and gompas ! Great to be able to read a detailed account of your trip - the hotel staff sound wonderful - making sure you see the mountain - and obviously very proud of their country. Can't quite see that happening here.
Afraid you've trashed any chance of getting a second home for your SIGNIFICANT birthday - camp indeed !
Another road sign Just reading the blogs to get me through until I return to India in December. Last year my favourite sign was Hurry Burry spoils the Curry. It was situated between Jaldapahra and Kalimpong.
Enjoy your trip.
Downhill all the way ! Very funny story about the post office. Have you ever thought of going in for writing or comedy ???
When I said it will be 'down hill all the way' I didn't mean literally! Hope you don't have too many experiences like that.
Philosophical poet ! Pleased to hear you've reached the furthest point of your destination. Downhill all the way now! Loved the bit about the retired poet creating road signs - do post any other idiosyncratic ones you see. Hope the rain doesn't create too many problems. Looking for ward to hearing more. Take care M
Monsoon in Kolkata ! Glad to see you managed to find your rucksack. Did the identifying tag help? Sounds as tho the monsoon could be a bit of a problem but I expect you'll get lots of advice on what to do to lessen it's impact. We are all well here. Tim is pleased with his directing at Hollyrood - have recorded parts of the prog. Hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly. Keep in touch. Love Mum
My blogs were a means of keeping in touch with family while travelling, but the spread of wi-fi has provided other means, so I've not visited this site much over the last few years.
Have kept travelling, tho', so may update this (albeit after the event) with more up to date travels.
And currently thinking about where to go next.
