Toilets Michelle,
If Greece has moved to the bottom of your list, i must give you the list that i have and use for my public health class where they still do not use toilet paper. Did you ever wonder why no one in India or China and many other countries is never a left handed individual. Enough said that unless you carry toilet paper with you, in these countries and in others, using your left hand is the accepted common practice. So think of that next time someone from one of these countries prepares your dinner :)
Steve,
Where are you headed next if you are saying good-by to Greece???
Barry and I just wanted to remind you of the Irish whisky when you get to Ireland, and remember, make sure it is from a small distillery that does not export so there is no chance of getting it in the US. See you soon.
toilets Hi - I've been "beaching" it myself for a week around LA with some friends. Thank goodness they have clean toilets that take toilet paper. Greece has now moved to the bottom of my travel list due to the toilet situation.
Pictures look nice and seems you are having a wonderful experience. How expensive are the drinks? I was drinking mojitos or margaritas every day on my vacation, usually at happy hour prices.
Leaving Greece Steve,
Good pics as always from Crete and Rhodes. When do you leave Athens and what happens after that?? Are you glad you wnet and would you do it again? See you soon and take care.
Barry
Culture Stephen, your comment on how some people seem to live their entire life in one area and unlike us in the US, seem less interested in the hustle and bustle of diversification is not so unusual, especially in isolated areas. You would think that in this "global" world, all share the same views, or at least similar views. I know when i first came to Tucson, there were several Mexicans that i worked with who lived thier entire life in the 1 sqaure mile of "little Mexico" i.e., the Barrio, in down town Tucson. I remember talking to 1 girl and asking her if she ever saw snow or a pine tree, considering Mt. Lemmon was only 45 minutes away, but she never had, and she must have been about 40. Her entire life was to go to work and then back to that 1 square mile, where her entire family and extended family had lived for more then 50 years and she had no desire to see anything else except that little area of Tucson. So i think in some ways, what you are seeing is more common then others might be aware.
Wandered through a Wonder I've already climbed Chichen Itza! Other wonders-First of all, the Great Wall is not contiguous, but the pieces are a few thousand miles long, started by Shi hu wang di (sp?) A strange dude who ultimately died drinking something in the hopes of finding the fountain of youth. The Taj Mahal built by Shah Jahan, a Mughal emporer for his wife Mumtaz Mahal (who died giving birth to something like her 14th child). He said the building she be as beautiful as she is beautiful-ah, what a romantic. The Colosseum; I'd love to go; I assume you went? Below the floor labrynth is pretty cool? Would also love to see Petra. It is Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio; I'd rather go for Carnival. Tough choices; although Macchu Pichu looks pretty cool. Thanks for the update Alex, it's another Jolly Rancher for you!
Jewish Quarter Great pictures etc. thanks for giving a donation in our honor, I'll have to make sure I get to see the synagogue and your in shul wow!!!!!! keep enjoying.
Toilets & Tablets Yes, many toilets; although I won't be posting them all; we'll work that out in NH. None have been too gross. As for the tablet, I really like to be a goof ball as much as I can. Thanks for following me along; the journey continues. Love you Sarah
woman of Kos IF thats the best you could find, know wonder time to move on. Thanks for toilet pictures. For our private showing, see if you can get some that are less then sanitary?
More Toilets I am definetly thinking that I should go to the class where UNcle Aaron is talking about the toilets...seeing as how you took like 500 pictures of them.
p.s. I like the pic. of you when your in front of the statue...where is your tablet???
YUMMMYYY Wow I really would like to have tried that peanut butter thing..it sounds delicioussss! I find it funny that you are taking pics of toliets..but I know that Uncle Aaron wants them for his class..anyways hope you are having a good time!
Coffee on Coffee-Toilets on Toilets I like it Jim. Kind of like Kramer's (from Seinfeld) coffee table book on coffee tables it could be a bathroom book on bathrooms
Toilets Steve, great pics and comments on your travels. I just thought of an idea (I'm sure you have thought about this also), keep taking the toilet pictures, and solicit our friends for photos of toilets in exotic locals. In a few years, you can edit them and publish a coffee table book titled something like, "Toilets of the World....."
Just an idea, there are stranger books on stranger topics....
Keep having fun, we'll see you when you return.

Cuban Cigars Steve,
Sorry about leaving out the other words. I meant to say that you need to take the cuban bands off and put it in another place in your luggage. I would be curious to see these bands if you can bring them back. Let me know what brands you see and I can tell you what to buy. Thanks and stay safe
Water Well, first, remember they are surrounded by water. Yes, I know it's salt water, but they could desalinate; however, perhaps you either need a nuclear powered sub or Saudi oil money to do that. As for pollution in the water, if you mean visable trash, not much, in some of those water front pictures where the boats are docking-a bit, but not at the beach. So it looks clean but you're the microbiologist. Regarding toilet paper, every bathroom has a little trash recepticle for that; I'll get some pictures. I have not always followed this rule.
stupid question Steve,
If you cannot throw the toilet paper into the toilet, what do you do with it? Also, have you noticed much in the way of pollution in the water, just curious of the infrastructure and how they handle all the tourists? Also, i am going to guess that the size of the shower is also a function of their ability to produce fresh water???
Nice Local Pics Steve,
By far the best job on the local pics. Remember what Chris Smith used to say: History is more than dates and buildings-it's how people act on a daily basis. You captured that with the whole beach party scene-living history at it's best!!!!!!!!!
Sidenotes-The whole toilet paper in the garbage is just gross.
*What do the locals due for aliving? Is it 100% based on tourism?
*Cuban cigars-bring back as many as you can but remember to remove the band and out it in another place-as they are highly illegal.
Stay safe and can't wait to see you in a little over a week
Greece Hey Steve, glad your relaxing! I could use a spell of that myself!
I understand your frustration with the "paying" for everything, it's like that all over Europe! Possibly because people actuallytravel during the summers! Hopefully you can get ice in your water, coke, et all. That was really frustrating to me, everywhere in Europe and many places in Asia! No ice!
I'm waiting to hear about Crete, some people I know really enjoyed it!
Safe travels-
Jim
