The last entry was endless, I know. Don't worry though this one won't be as there is not much to say about Battambang. The alarm woke us up at 5.45 as we were meant to get picked up at 6.40 and we wanted to have some breakfast. We got picked up at 7.45 eventually and at 8.20 the big bus to Battambang left Siem Reap. We arrived there around midday and got dragged to several hotels of which one was worse than the other. After a while we found one and at 1.45 pm we were in the room, had a shower and went for a nap. At 5ish we had a walk around and sat at the river for a while after we had dinner. As Ryan wasn't very well we went back to the ... read more

We left Koh Chang on the 29th of December and made our way to Cambodia. We were meant to get picked up at 7 am but the driver must have slept in and came at 7.45 and the ferry was due to leave at 8.30 am. He chased along the windy coast road like a lunatic and I didn't feel safe at all but we arrived at the ferry on time. We only had a short stop at the tour office and then continued our way towards the border crossing in Poipet. Once we got there a very very very friendly Thai "tour guide" welcomed us in the middle of nowhere and told us we have to buy the visa for Cambodia of him for 1100 Baht (36US$) otherwise it would took us 3 hours to ... read more

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! :-) Aww, I'm sorry for being such a lazy bone but I just can't help it. I really do try to write but I lack creativity and I'm just too tired in the evenings. haha. I promise I'll be a good girl from now one. So yeah, we arrived in Bangkok on the 21st in the afternoon and took the airport-city-link skytrain to town and then continued by taxi to Khao San Road. It was amazing to be back and my Thai skills gradually returned as well - helpful. We found quite a cheap place to stay in Soi Rambuttri, parallel to Khao San Road. There was a weird petrol smell in the room but as it was late we agreed to take the room. (More about that later..) After some amazing Pad ... read more

Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Kuta December 20th 2011

After an amazing relaxing 10 days on the Gili Islands we had to make our way back to Bali as we are flying to Bangkok tomorrow. The journey was typical Indonesian - busses and ferry were delayed and instead of 6 pm we arrived at around 8 pm. I regretted that we didn't choose the fastboat until we saw wild dolphins while we were on the ferry what really made my day. Once we arrived in Kuta and got stuck in a traffic jam I wished myself back to the Gilis where they don't have any cars or scooters. It was a real shock with all the traffic. Once we had left the safe surroundings of the minibus a crowd of people circelled around us like vultures around a dead animal. It was awful. I was ... read more

It's the 17th December and it couldn't feel any less like Christmas. We've been on Gili Air for the past few days but I'll tell you about that shortly. Before Air we had spent five days on Gili Trawangan. Gili T is the largest of the three islands situated 10km off the north coast of Lombok but is still only a few kilometres long. We moved after our first night to a new place that served a great breakfast and had a good bed with nice clean white sheets (a bit of a luxury out here it seems). The breakfast really was great and well worth crawling out of bed for. Delicious, ripe mango, pineapple, banana and water melon followed by a nice omelette and coffee. A great way to start our days there. Most of ... read more

I am sitting here, staring on the screen and thinking what I could write. Can inactivity and relaxing harm the creativity? Apparently it can. Okay, I'll give it a try now. Ryan's entry finished with us cooling down in the pool I think. So, yeah, we cooled down in the pool and chilled in the sun and cooled down in the pool again on our first day in Ubud. This was completely exhausting so we had a nice little nap before we went to get some nice food for dinner. Afterwards we met up with the Dutch couple and Paul for a drink in the XL Shisha Lounge and then we went to bed. Very unexciting but relaxing. The next day started with a refreshing swim in the pool and a nice breakfast served on our ... read more

We left Jogja three days ago now, taking a mini bus on another long and exhausting journey east towards Mount Bromo. The drive out of Jogja took us past the towering peak of Mount Merapi, Indonesia's most active volcano. Once out of the Jogja, the landscape opened up on either side of us. I'm not sure i have ever seen such a green country. The land is so fertile here and it seems that every where that could be cultivated has been. Rice paddies and fruit plantations stretch far into the distance. We continued east past more volcanoes and rice paddies on what started to become a very uncomfortable bus ride, we were used to those by now though. We arrived in the town of Probolinggo by early evening where we transfered to a different bus ... read more

We are sitting on the balcony of the Bedhot Resto at the moment, having a nice chilled Bintang and weird crisps (I want a package of Walkers Cheese&Onions crisps NOW!). We actually planned to have a massage tonight but as the girl who was meant to give me a massage was very busy with her blackberry there is no massage tonight. But first things first. The last entry ended with the wonderful train ride if I remember it right. Okay, so after 10 sweaty hours on a train we arrived in Yogyakarta (Jogja) and made our way to Sosro where all the guesthouses (losmen) are. We walked around for quite a while and saw loads of different places. A guy thought he'd do us a favour (and his wallet with the commission) by dragging us to ... read more

Asia » Indonesia » Java » Jakarta » Cengkareng December 2nd 2011

We arrived in Jakarta on the 29th of November at around midday and took a Damri bus to the train station of Gambir - probably the easiest way to get into the city centre. After the comfortable 45 minutes bus ride we refused to take a taxi or a bajaj and walked to JL Jaksa, the "backpacking district" of Jakarta. I expected it to be a bit like Khao San Road in Bangkok but I was completely wrong. It is a very narrow street with loads of traffic and it took us quite a while to find a nice, low budget accomodation. We were really relieved once we had found one and after a nice refreshing shower we started exploring the area around JL Jaksa. It was grey, dirty and noisy. The traffic in Jakarta is ... read more

It is Saturday morning, shortly after midnight and we experience a typical tropical rain shower. A new waterfall develops - in our room. The water runs down the walls and a lake develops on the floor of the green room. I really do love waterfalls but not in my room. It was a horrible night and as if the water wasn't bothering us enough the prayers were projected through the loudspeakers at 4.30 in the morning. Amazing - NOT! We decided to get up at 6 am in the morning. Yes, you got that right, 6 am! It seems like we are turning into real morning people. We had a quick breakfast and took a minibus to the bus terminal to catch a big bus to Bukit Lawang. The bus ride was quite bumpy and it ... read more
