Gili Air Hi Kim, I really enjoy to read your blog. It's fantastic thing that's you need 10 years to came there. So you live in jakarta right now? For how long?
For some people, Bali isn't paradise right? You should go to Derawan in Kalimantan or Wakatobi in Sulawesi. Maybe you can find paradise in there.
I live and work in private national television in Jakarta. I been visiting many places in Indonesia, if you need some refference maybe I can help you.
Good to know you.
Sincerely,
Danny Maulana.

Thanks Danny I'm always looking for suggestions! Next year I'll be headed to Sulawasi and beyond.... I'm not leaving until I see all of Indonesia - what a great country to travel in :D
Your quest for the perfect beach will never end... when you think you have found the perfect beach, you will still wonder if this indeed is the most perfect beach. Have fun discovering!
How about a two week trip? Kim, I'm thinking you should do a two week trip with them next time. You know ... make it through those Lake Sai comfort, groan and growth zones? Tee hee. Here's to a great trip and it being over. I am headed out to Fujian province with our 7th graders next week for a week. :-) I know it will be great and the beer at the end of it will be so needed and refreshing! - Meagan
The School Trip Another interesting blog! I would think that traveling with a school group would be very different than traveling alone or with a friend or family, you paint a very vivid, interesting picture of it, illustrating that there are pluses and minuses. Also, loved the photos, especially Misty Morning.
What a great story! I was laughing all the way. I completely get it. Childless myself, I enjoy my nieces and nephews (14) and send them packing. You are brave to spend this much time with a group of 13 year olds but as you describe you got something out of it and it sounds like the kids did too! Bravo for going along.
A possible tourist idea? Great read, Kim. I'm wondering if combining Komodo dragon sighting with spa treatments might be a good adventure tourism activity ... "Come for a pedicure and see if you keep your toes" could be the tag line. See you soon!
ditto! Love this entry! I feel the same way! Leaving in May for my 3rd trip to thailand, and all I can think is, I don't want to come home!! :'-( It, too, is my first true love! Glad I'm not the only one.
I agree completely with your list... and I was born and raised there so have experienced it all as you say. My son lives in Bangkok teaching English until he starts law school, and is enjoying life there. Have a great trip.
The Midnight Summit Another interesting blog, although I remember you telling me about this experience at the time, it was interesting to read again and refresh my memory. Keep blogging!
Foreign Language vs. Anything to do with Travel My husband says the same thing..why don't you study Chinese (as we are embarking on our 5th term teaching here) instead of reading blog? My response is "I studied the 1st term we lived here and haven't since..why do you still ask me this? I don't enjoy learning the language that is why and I truly enjoy reading about others travels and planning our next travels.
the mandi lalur My husband and I are headed to Bali in May and I have added this spa experience to my list of things to do while in Bali. I have had some pretty crazy spa experiences myself while traveling around Asia, nothing compared to a massage in the US.
Agreed We arrived back in China 3 weeks ago from India and we felt the same way...never so glad to be back in what we considered organized and clean. Travel does make you appreciate the small & big things in life.
The Life of Traveling I can't agree more with you...my husband and I are living in China currently but do miss being by family in the US. The next trip is what keeps me going in China as living here can be quite difficult at times. Seeing how others live, the experiences we take away and the amazing food we get to experience is the best part of traveling.
I remember my first trip to San Fran when I was 5 years old flying with my Aunt to visit my other Aunt and her husband. I have had the wanderlust in me ever since.
Just balancing the scales from the previous night... although given its lack of direction, the turtle probably never returned to this beach to lay eggs. Maybe she found a new beach that had never been used before. Anyway, thnks for making an issue of it and going to the very top to share what needed to be done. Great story and memory.
A chain traveler that often will spend some time during each trip to book the next trip....
I have been roaming the planet for almost 30 years and finally gave up any hope of settling down and joined the expat community about 10 years ago. I have lived in England, Bahrain, Japan, and now Indonesia. Travels have included somewhere around 60 countries and counting....(except I don't count, I just GO!)
Since I'm more of a mathematician than writer, this blog will mostly be random musings - the things I think about during the long hours of travel. There will also be anecdotes and travel ... full info
