The seven hour, very bumpy, bus ride to Uyuni (c3700 metres above sea level, SW Bolivia) was made worse for the fact that my day pack had just been stolen seconds before the bus departed Potosi, from right beside me, dispite the fact that I had been particularly vigilant that evening. Most depressingly I had a week´s photos on the memory card in my camera that I had not yet down loaded, and Uyuni was supposed to be a photo fiesta! The bus got to Uyuni at 1am and it was about -10 degrees centigrade. I checked into my hostel, put about four layers on and hid under about 3 blankets.
