Greetings Hey Tom
Thanks for a few nice days i El-Kasr! Nope you have fun on the rest of you trip... I'm sure gonna follow it :)
You can look forward to a lot of dust and heat (think 45 decrees Cencius), slow transport, no real toilets and a lot of wonderfull nice people when you are going trough Sudan!
Just fucking typical that the palistinian border is being closed by Israel 2 days before I'm going there... Argh!!!!!
Anyways, have fun! I'll see you around.
Danish cheers!

Hi Tom! I was really interested to read this about Luxor Tom, as you know, I`ll be there myself in September. I`m staying at a top nobby hotel so I`ll have to disappoint your manager mate, but I must say I`m really looking forward to it and have planned exactly where I want to go, it`s helpful to know something about it first, it sounds a bit like Denpasar, hassle wise.
Jess says hello, he`s been here for a few days and is a little, how shall I put it.... fatigued.
Take care and lots of love,
Hel. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Chang Hey Tom, Loving the history lessons, I'm learning more from you than I ever did in school. I've finally got a new phone after our MDC antics, and haven't heard from that girl strangely enough? Don't forget to wash the Chang shirt though, it looks like its seeing a lot of action! :-)
Bec or Helwan? hmmmm I trust Bec was pleased with the offers she was receiving?? Where are all the local girls for saif felucca drivers? I sense Helwan was not only your camel but many of the local men knew him more intimately!!!!
Welts... The answer is - no comment. Me welts are me own business luv. But I know exactly what you mean. My favourite moment is when the camel lurches forward to put you down, and you slide into the wooden noggin at the front of the saddle. Ouch!
Any welts? Benny and I got serious welts that turned to grazes from camel riding: inner thigh for me, more personal areas for Ben. Suffice to say that sitting was uncomfortable for some time.
Have you found Atlantis? Hey Tom, my son is so impressed with the combination of a camel video and a Donovan reference. Any sign of Atlantis down there? I'll redo my introductory Elective History unit if you can find me some nice photos of Atlantis. Helwan is just the coolest animal I think I've ever seen, and you two seem a perfect match with your laid back lifestyles.
Happy trails,
Bernie
Karma???? Hey Tom - could you consider your (not so cheap) hotel experience to be karma for 'sticking it to the man' in Egypt??? ;lol Loving the blogs. Truly amazed that the internet truly is 'world wide'!
Phil collins? Brett, please...there's only ONE Phil Collins song in my collection, and that's on a compilation of Beatles covers. I do have a little taste...
Internet in Egypt... Gerry, when there's no booze and no pubs and no clubs and in fact nothing except for doneys and tea, internet seems to be one of the few diversions for the local populace...the availability of connections worldwide always stuns me. To my knowledge, there's none on the top of Everest yet...but give it time...
Tom,
Thank you for taking us on your wonderful adventure. I really enjoy each episode.
The photos are grwat and I am astounded by the technology in the middle of the sahara. Beats the Kerrie Valley!
Birmingham Heritage As a proud father I must run to the defence of my son evading entrance fees and posing as a local to get the cheap rate. As he was born in Birmingham he is merely following his culture. Birmingham children are taught at a very early age to duck under turnstiles, to travel free on buses and generally to rip off 'the man'. I glow with fatherly pride when I read these things. Onya Tom, that's my boy.
Prince Tom of Asyut? Nice to hear you have found your place in the Royal family of Egypt. First you are assigned a bodyguard and next the locals of Asyut teat you like a Prince from the golden era. And how do you repay their hospitality??? A cassette player with shitty Egyptian music. Surely ...they are worthy of some of your Phil Collins and Europe specials?
1983 guide Funnily enough, from an op-shop in the UK about two weeks ago. It was only a pound. It even has Luxor in it...I guess nothing has changed there either, I mean the temples are 4000 years old...
Teacher or Traveller? You do know that if you tell everyone you're a history teacher you occasionally get a behind the scenes tour. Especially if you imply you're thinking of bringing a group out next year...
I once got $40 when they left my bags in Fiji... but that didn't pay for the next 5 weeks you infidel dog! May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits!
Travel happens when I can fit it in, nowadays, but it will always be my favourite hobby. Here's my list of the best bits so far, in thirteen years of hopping around the world:
Asia Angkor Wat (Cambodia) Taj Mahal and Varanasi (India) Annapurna Range and Kathmandu (Nepal) Bagan (Burma) Koh Phiphi (Thailand) Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors and the Forbidden City (China) Peshawar and the Chitral-Gilgit road (Pakistan) Istanbul and Butterfly Valley (Turkey) Luang Prabang (Laos)
Americas Teotihuacan and Mexico City (Mexico) Lake Atitlan and Tikal (Guatem... full info
