Today Leonie and I headed into the Czech Republic to the little fairytale town of Kesky Krumlov - with its own tower and bear guarding it, the little quaint alleyways, cobble stoned paths and very cute houses it did not disappoint. We had a good chat with 2 of the bears - not sure where the other 1 went to bit we didn't hear any screams so hopefully was just at the pub have a quick pint. As always we had to climb to the highest point, so up the tower we went - even had a quick stop in the dungeon on the way up. We made it to the top and the view didn't disappoint. With all those stairs we decided we had earned lunch, so we headed to the pancake and waffle Cafe- ... read more

Overnight we left Vienna and headed to the little village of Durnstein - our first night of sailing because of the Danube being too low for the boats. We didn't even realise we were moving overnight so it was lovely to watch the sunrise and see the village appear. Both Leonie and I took the yoga class before breakfast and were very thankful as the walk up to Durnstein Castle was quite steep but we were rewarded with amazing views over the village and the Danube. After lunch Leonie, Moira and I head to Melk Abbey; a Benedictine Abbey founded in 1089 and still working with 23 monks (30-94 years old) still living and working at the Abbey. With so few monks and such a vast estate, the monks have establish a school in part of ... read more

A day of culture and sophistication. We spent the morning on a guided walk of the old city. We went up the north tower of St Stephens Church and got rewarded with fantastic views across the city. We tried to reward ourselves with apple strudel but after not being served for 25 minutes we had to give up to rejoin the tour - oh well next time (we will just have to come back). In the evening we got dressed up and went to see the Vienna Supreme Orchestra. Their performance was amazing not only did we get to hear the Orchestra but there was also opera and ballet performances, part of it had a modern take and was a little cheeky. Tonight we finally get to sail overnight to our next destination Durnstein. Only about ... read more

Today was not only 3 cities in 1 day but 3 countries - Breakfast in Hungary, Lunch in Slovakia and Dinner in Vienna. Today we left Budapest, not on the boat but by bus as someone had pulled the plug on the Danube and no river boats can transverse between Vienna and Budapest. So it was on to buses for us today - we only managed 5 minutes before an American realised they have left their passport in the boats safe!! Always 1. When we got to Bratslava ( about 2.5 hours by bus) Leonie and I decided we needed to earn ice cream so hiked up to Bratslava Castle and enjoyed the views over the Danue. We had a walk around the old city and found a cool little cafe to have a traditional Slovakian ... read more

Budapest never disappoints and always leaves you wanting for more. Leonie and I had an excellent day, started with hiking up the Citadel to see the Lady of Liberty and views across the Danube to Pest. I managed to sneak in a couple of hours of work before we headed out again on an Arts and Architecture Tour of the City. We had a tour of the Opera House, ending with a short performance by two incredible opera singers. With so much culture under our belts we had to experience the delights of the local coffee and cakes - we definitely had to do some more steps after that. So to work off our afternoon cake we headed to the underground and rode the subway to Varosliget Park and looked around the Gyogyfurdo Uszoda (Spa) and ... read more

We made it to our boat on the Danube, but of course as per all Wrigglesworth holidays it was not all smooth sailing!!! Our transfer to the boat didn't turn up and we didn't know where the boat was moored. We werent the only ones - 12 of us were stranded. Luckily Leonie had roaming on her phone and after a couple of phone calls (including 1 to the Captain of the boat we thought we were on) we found out that we are on a different boat, where is was docked and there wasn't any transfer available. We managed to get a shuttle transfer to the boat and got settled in - it is very nice, staff are lovely and food is definitely 5 star. But no adventuring for us today, after listening to the ... read more
