So Everest wins hands down. This was by far the coolest thing that we've done on the trip so far. So being eager beavers we managed to get to the airport before it opened and had to queue out side with all the other tourists, who were mainly in groups and tried pushing in, but we managed to get through security pretty well and got tickets etc. We then sat on the tarmac for a hour before being told that we had "generator" problems. Is there a generator on a plane? Eventually took off and Katherine sat in the front and watched the pilots read the manual when a flashing light went off. Odd, you'd think they had already read it. First day of walking was slightly down hill with abit of cloud about, nice and ... read more

After working out that we could get through to China via Tibet we decided to go to Sikkim without our bikes, come back to Nepal, climb Everest and then bike to China rather than gettting our legs blown off by land mines in Myanmar, hense the sikkim trip was purely bus riding, jeeps and trekking rather than the loveable bikes. Our 16hour bus ride left Kathmandu at 4pm and Katherine and i turned up with all the necessary snacks need, the other tourists were pretty gutted that they didn't have their food. All went pretty smoothly until it got dark, then people started lighting fires in the middle of the road and we of course drove over them. We then managed to hit almost every pot hole which made it pretty hard to sleep, this as ... read more

After the circuit we all headed to Pokara for some well deserved R&R, beer and good food. This primarily involved me eating far to much chocolate pancakes, brownies and ice cream. Although Katherine and i had already spent heaps of time there we still enjoyed doing the tourist thing, hanging out on the lake, going to the mountain museum, walking to the piece pagoda and getting up at the crack of dawn to watch the sun rise over sarangot. Once mum and dad left we went biking around the lake and ran into some kids who demanded to be taken for rides on our bikes, which we made pete do!!! But these kids couldn't really ride the bikes so we had to push them, which was all good for the 6 year olds but some of ... read more

After not blogging for awhile, here is a short update. after a week in Kathmandu i went to the UK for Liz's wedding and Katherine went back to Pokhara and generally hung out and went rafting. Then we met back in Kathmandu where mum, dad, pete and scott all turned up a day later for our Annapurna Circuit trip. As most of you have either got petes blog or mums emails i'll keep this pretty brief and talk about the entertaining parts. We spent a couple of days hanging around Kathmandu visiting tourist sights and the like in which there was varrying degrees of enjoyment within the group. Katherine and i both throughly enjoyed the aircon drive by tour and perfected our queen waves whilst laughing at all the tourst that were doing the the hard ... read more

So after chickening out of riding into Kathmandu and catching a bus there was no way that we were going to ride to Pohkara - i love the bus that takes 8 hours to drive 200km, we could almost do faster on our bikes. Anyway turned up and go kicked off the bus (at the last stop), to be attacked by all the taxi drivers and guest house dudes, then rode into town to find a place to stay and the bus drove past and stopped so all the locals still on the bus could point and laugh. Don't understand. Anyhow we found the coolest place with aircon, tv and the most amazing view over the lake, for about 10% of the orginal price - i think the owner felt sorry for the two sweaty, tired, ... read more

After spending too much time writing the last blog we didn't end up leaving Lumbini until a tad later than expected. This plus the fact my knee started playing up meant that we were about an hour behind schedule getting into town. Consequently, Katherine and I had our very first (and hopefully last) experience of night time riding with no lights in the pouring rain - NOT FUN!!. But we both lived to tell the tail and Katherine did manage to ride into a massive pot hole, dissappear for a few moment and then reappear with no significant damage to either her or the bike. From here we continued on our merry way to Kathmandu, cheating slightly and catching a bus up the hill to Kathmandu, primarily because there were so many trucks and buses. Our ... read more

After spending a couple more days in Naintal (i didn't want to leave) we headed towards the Nepal border. In comparsion to the riding that we had done previously this was a walk in the park, we were cranking out over 12km and hour rather than the 12km per day that we had been doing. We where later to realise that this was because it was all slightly downhill (thanks GPS). Anyway, got to the border in record time but on the way went through a few really cool little towns and villages. Most of these places had about one hotel and after having a few issues with the non ac rooms (we thought that we could cope but no!!) we worked out what was going on. Although gettting dinner each night was pretty entertaining, just ... read more

So in our last update Katherine and I were realivately up beat about our fitness level and our treking experince, this is no longer the case - were are two of the more unfit people around, old ladies carrying twice as much as us were walking up the hill as we were trying to pull our sorry arses upwards. From the start.... After trying to get an expensive "flash tourist" bus but Katherine being told that she was too grubby we have decided that local buses are the way to go, they don't care how much you smell but they also don't care about dumping you in the middle of some random town with no where to stay and no way to leave. This random place of Nandaprayag is where our second trek started. Our trusty ... read more

Because it was so damn hot in Delhi we thought we would splash out and get an over night "air con" bus it Mcleod Ganj. As it turns out the air con only lasted 15 mins, so probably wasn't worth it, but we made it at any rate. After lugging all our stuff up the hill to our hotel (Katherine managed to get the help of some very lovely munks) we very able to explore the place. We went for a couple of hikes, up steep hills, one to this pretty cool waterfall, where all the boys were allowed to swim, but we weren't, bugger. Also took our bikes for there first spin, pretty fun, and the best bit was that we are now faster than the boys proposing!! After a couple of days chilling here ... read more
