Spiders yes but so much more One day spiders in your bathroom, the next toucans in your backyard. The amazing things we see from this house out weigh the creepy crawlies by far! Can you believe I'm saying that? You can wait to visit until the new house is built. We'll have screens on all the windows decreasing the chance of intruders ten fold. Our current home has no screens and you can see 1/4 inch of daylight in some rooms. Not ideal for keeping critters out.
The new house won't be the Hilton but Callista has offered you the use of her jacuzzi bath tub with waterfall. I get a tub with a view, she gets a waterfall. Besides, the price is better, includes meals, three personal guides, a fitness trainer (Bear who'll make sure you walk every day) and spectacular views. Hugs back atcha!!! Jen
Spiders Thanks for the spider(s) story and, no, I don't expect ME anytime soon.
I understand the balance of nature as per spiders, scorpions, etc. but I don't share my bed with them. I don't care if they bite or not, I'd be on spider patrol all nite for as many nites as I'm there; wouldn't sleep a wink. Let me know if there's a Hilton Suites nearby and I'll reconsider.
And, yes, get me a room on the top floor !! Hugs -- Noah Spiders
BEAUTIFUL DESCRIPTION VERY WELL WRITTEN. I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. I FELT THE SAME WAY ON OUR VISIT IN APRIL. I CAN'T WAIT TO MOVE THERE. I FEEL LIKE THAT IS WHERE I BELONG TOO. IT'S HOME.
My first "doctor" Doctor D'Adamo, world reknowned iridologist, was my first doctor off-the-beaten-path. He diagnosed me as an alcoholic. I RAN and professed him to be a quack. Now 18 years sober by the grace of God and the help of AA, I can only look back and chuckle. He also told me to stay off sugar which I did for 6 weeks and never felt better. And he was a purist... when he said no sugar, he meant no fruit, no sweetener, no coffee (caffeine creates the high and low that sugar does, insulin response), no tea, no jelly, no beer (that's when I panicked), NOTHING. I was sick for the first week... then on a high I haven't been on since. What this is all leading up to is that I am sold on iridology. Amazing stuff, eh? So who is this doctor? I'd love to go, take the boys and Hal. And, um, goat's milk with your Oreos? My iridologist wouldn't let me have Oreos. I'm going to like yours better...
Blessed Herbs Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out post haste! I did the onion/lime juice concoction on Thursday and SWEAR I'll never do it again even though Luis advised it once a month. Not long after drinking it Arenal Volcano erupted in my stomach... everything came out the way it went in. ARGH! I knew their had to be some other way. We bought two big bags of carrots at the farmers market last night so we're ready to start having a glass a day. A friend is taking us to buy goat milk and ice cream today. Let you know how that goes. Thanks for commenting!!! Jen
Great for you Jen! I have been changing my diet too. I used to suffer from depression and all sorts of little ills and have never felt better since incorporating a few changes as well as drinking more h2o and no more diet drinks. I used to drink tons of em. Now that being said I wanted to direct you to a web site that sells a colon cleanser that I have done twice now. You wouldnt believe how great you feel and your skin becomes so clear and your body thanks you in enormously gross ways by means of (expelling toxins) gross I know. Here it is...by the way, i am in no way connected to this company other than using the colon cleanser has changed my life in amazing ways. The site is under Blessed Herbs. You can google it. I like the ginger flavor best! Just a thought. Carol Lynn. Ps: we are now looking into CR, Honduras as well as Nicaragua! Can you imagine it? So exciting. CL
Property in Costa Rica You can't take anything for granted, especially if it comes from the "abogado diablo". It takes two attorneys to purchase land here (to be safe, have the second one check the first one) and it pays to have your property surveyed twice. Before and after.
Enjoy the birds and nature - it's the natural tranquilizer for living here.

oh to be a type b I hear ya LOUD AND CLEAR. There is NOTHING to do but count to 10. Er make that 10,000. Thank you for your perspective on GB. Yes, now she can enjoy Costa Rica... big hug!
Mamon Chinos i lived in costa rica this whole summer and probably the saddest thing was leaving behind mamon chinos. you say you wont try them, but they are DELICIOUS! i wouldnt try them for the longest time until the last week. and then i ate them nonstop. you must indulge, you really must.
Love your whole blog so far... My family and another family are setting the stages to move to CR in about 6-8 months. We are all here in the Beautiful area of San Francisco CA but have had enough of this lifestyle. No more keeping up with the Jones' and stressing out about money when happiness is most important to us. We have three kids 2-4-and 6 and our best friends have a 4 and 6 yr old. We are still really crazy excited but have so many things to look into still. We are going to join the ARCR and try and get residency started here. We don't even know what we will do for jobs yet...I hope hope hope and know one day we will be happily coexisting with all of the other folks who decided the rat race isnt a race worth running, and want out. Love your blog. It is inspirational and I am so happy to have read it. Your family is amazing to me and you all are going to have the life of your dreams at this rate. Congratulations for just doing it. Please let me know if it would be ok to ask questions if ever we have them... Sincerely, CarolLynn- sfandclf@gmail.com
Hello Craig!!! Glad to see you made it safe and sound. Enjoy!!!! You need to send me your email address, so we can keep in touch from time to time.
Hugs to all,
Cyn
I hear ya! Hi Jen,
I hear ya on the emotional roller coaster.... I just returned from almost 3 weeks in the states and I'll tell you, that was GREAT for getting me over missing that place. I am SO happy to be back here. We are all going back for a trip around Thanksgiving and I'm anxious for the boys and Hal to feel like it's not so far away. That this is a beginning, rather than an ending. Although they all swear they don't miss it... maybe I really was the only one. But baby I'm HERE now!!! We need to get together - conversations in English are important to me, too. And making forays into the expat community. I'm not a group person either, but I need girlfriends. If we lived closer, I'm sure we'd be buddies - so call me when you all come to town. We'll have lunch at Bernie's. See you - Sally
Dental Care Thank you for this info. My family and I are in preparing to move from the US to CR within the next few months. When I read articles like yours explaining medical and dental costs, it makes me more eager. I agree with your sentiment on dental work here in the US. My family can easily pay thousands of dollars a year to obtain just half of the work that you and the young girl obtained. Thanks for the insight.
Saw it, too!! I was so excited to see your blog about the butterfly conservatory. Not only were the mariposas and ranas (butterflies and frogs) amazing but my guide Evert was also very knowledgeable about biology and a fun tour guide!! I had an awesome time and plan to visit again! FYI--I was just there in early July...just missed eachother!
From the Arizona desert our family (Bill, Jen, Callista 10 and Bear) began a new life adventure in Costa Rica, January 2006. We live near San Ramon de Alajuela. This journal is a way for us to share our adventures with family and friends both old and new. This travel blog is for our travels , our website http://www.anewlifeincostarica.com will give you a glimpse into our lives in Costa Rica. Our photo journals let you see Costa Rica and our lives thru my eyes. http://community.webshots.com/user/jennifsh0701

Christmas Light Decorations
I laughed at the lights. I bought the same ones at Wal-mart during the after Christmas sales.
