Mist rolling in from the banks of the Trent! I loved this blog! It brought together two of my favorite subjects, championship football and people finding ways to enjoy their lives even under oppressive restrictions. I attended my first English football games in 2019, City Ground and Elland Road. Nice idea to include the lineups and attendance at the end.
Pontefract Coal Mine The football ground is on the edge of the old Colliery site. The Prince of Wales Colliery finally closed in 2002 - the site is now largely a residential housing estate.
COVID Travel Big restrictions in Europe.... a lot of countries require quarantine and / or quarantine on return to UK. There are areas of local lockdown in UK - so some public transport off limits. A number of theatres, museums, attractions remain closed. Generally full service on public transport, but due to reduced capacity on board train fares can be expensive.
The original purpose of the blog was the 20th wedding anniversary trip in 2006 / 2007 - Ashes cricket in Oz, setting off early in April and going the long way round!
The trip came to an end in February 2007 and for a while retrospective blogging was the only option (for reasons that you can find in the Road to Freedom).
There are still two to travel and the passport is now back in use in 2009. We get distracted in more than the odd football ground along the way, but it is all part of the journey.... full info
