Greeneries of the countryside Reading and looking at your photos reminded me my trip from Singapore to Bangkok via Malaysia by train. I stayed for few hours in Kuala Lumpur and visited Petronas. But along the way, Malaysia has still green fertile soil to develop. It seems you really enjoy your trip. Rey
what an education! Wow, what an education you are receiving! Sorry Mark had such a lousy experience. I know how disappointing it is when expectations don't measure up. Thought you were going to say you were going to try scuba diving! I think snorkeling can be just as satisfying, though.
Love, mompat
Finally a blog that accurately describes the trip! It's now been a few years since my last climb of Mt. Kinabalu and over time I've read many travel blogs, but reading yours brought back the memories most vividly. I found myself laughing out lout over your description of the descent from the mountain: I've never felt pain in my knees like that before! Keep writing, I'd love to read more.
Oh, did I mention I'm going back to do it all again this October? Will bring the ointment this time!
AWESOME! What an incredible experience! I loved every word of it. Reminded me of our hike around a mountain in China. The feeling of accomplishment is thrilling. I just remember thinking, put one foot in front of the other and keep moving! I was never so present and in the "now" as I was during that time. Love you much.
WOW! I am jealous of the view you saw, but not the hike it took to see it!
I just recently saw one of those pitcher orchids on this Discovery Channel series called Planet Earth that you will have to see when you get back. While I saw it from the comfort of my couch, who knew you guys would get to see one in person!
AMAZING !!!! Your writting had me in total AWE of your adventure and hard physical labor.....not to mention the beauty and grace of sunrise. I love reading your blog. Travel well - love - susie delong
the name of that plant wow guys, i am in complete awe of your adventures! you guys are doing in the right way! for the record, you hiked up one of the most orchid rich habitats in the world. some of the rarest orchids ever live on that mountain. also, those bug eating plants are in the genus nepenthes......the atlanta botanical garden has one of the world's largest ex-situ collections....many of them are growing on our 'mt. kinabalu' area of our tropical high elevation house.
by the way james, you are quite a good writer. always fun to read.
have fun!.......keep it up.
Come on down ok... you two have been gone for a while now, and it seems like you are enjoying that type of weather. so now the reasonable thing to do is obviously move to florida when/if you decide to return to the states. you just let me know, and i will find a spot for ya. well, hope that all is good. miss yas, and remember... draft day is coming up, so get your browns gear ready!!!!
Game over! It sounds like your safari has become a bit of a struggle. Please let us know when your flight gets into Cleveland. We no longer can hear of such sufferings!
P.S. Please let us know if you make it back for Reenie's graduation party on May 12, because parking is limited.
Look, Doug's sending a comment Looks like you guys are getting bored. The same routine of beaches, excursions, good food, drinking in exotic locales. Maybe it' time to start thinking about coming home...it's 30 degrees in Chicago and Cleveland is snowed in. How could you not want to head back?
heart sinking...stomach wishing to be infected with mass amounts of bacteria... What's up??!!!!! i just let out the hugest sigh reading your blogs... hoping my plan of building a good base to travel from will pay off in the long run...
i am so stoked for you guys!! how long has it been? are you never leaving malaysia? i am not sure if i would. just be careful of the pirates in the straights of mallaca... arrrrrrr...
i wish i could be there with you. wow do i miss the inescapable heat, unavoidable smiles, the motorbike rides, the runs, hikes, swims, beer, grilled fish, new friends...and the monkeys. can't leave those little guys out.
big smile for the both of you!
cheers!

its hot here too! and when i say hot i mean 70 degrees but whos counting. Your food look more fun than the stuff im eating everyday...tony needs to change the menu again! Also, starting this blog was almost as brilliant as Guiness!
bed bugz singapore has taken it to another level. get out while you can. how many weeks of the adventure got cut off with those singapore prices? i think maybe a little bit of litter is ok. isn't singapore where that american kid got lashed for chewing gum? or was he spray painting? either way, i'll leave my chicklets at home. suz, i love the bed bugs, but not the bites. i think we have those in our room. the bp station is the shit. with that little cute car. love you guys.
my stomache lives vicariously thru yours Good move with the blog guys! James you have perfect pinkie positioning when drinking tea...how proper of you....
yeah! now this is good stuff! good writing guys......i can just FEEL suz storming ahead of you two guys in silent frustration !@##$@......
awesome, thanks!
ciao
food is stupid hi guys,
what a good idea for the blog, this is way easier than trying to remember my snapfish login password and such. i like the layout and stuff.......i must say however, HOLY FOOD writing batman! you guys are in southeast asia remember!! there are like..... lots of orchids around and stuff too! also, people, and history, weather, and landscape......what are you writing a food novel? cuz maybe you consider it!
i just got back from 3 days in the fakahatchee strand cypress swamp in south florida. i'm working with park officials there searching for 3 endangered orchids. we spent 3 full days in the field searching 85,000 acres of swamp for a meager 6 plants known to exist of one species, and the other two species are thought to be extinct. we're setting up contacts to search cuba for material for propagation and reintroduction. maybe i could start a cuban food blog or something.
i'm off to costa rica next week for 8 days. i'll let you know how the freakin food is! seriously though, i'm once again jealous of your non-job havin', non-house worryin',non-bill payin', good food eatin', traveling asses!! you guys are awesome and are really taking an amazing trip of a lifetime! i'm happy for you, but also can't wait to hang out and drink a beer with you again sometime.
btw- ohio state looks like they'll wrap up the overall #1 seed in ncaa tourney......bin ten title.....and now are in the big ten tourney semifinals after beating michigan for the 3rd time in one season.
go bucks!!
seeya!
