In the begining....there was a gringo who thought he could speak Spanish but quickly realised on arrival in Santiago, Chile that it’s one thing speaking Spanish in the comfort of your own country, and quite another when your life depends on it in a strange and foreign land. The Chileans like to speak Spanish 'muy rapido' (very fast), which doesn’t help matters and their pronounciation isn’t great if i may say so myself. It sounds nothing like my 'teach yourself Spanish' lessons that’s for sure! However, i am making progress and the Spansh is starting to flow, or rather trickle, and i do enjoy the random conversations i attempt with the locals.
