John and Maria Henderson
We have been lucky enough to have travelled extensively over the last twenty years. In 1996 John went on a pub crawl in Ireland while in 1997 Maria journeyed to South America, the highlight being a five day walk into Macchu Picchu. In 1999 we went on our honeymoon and took John's sister Kath and Maria's friend Margaret with us to Turkey, Egypt, Holland, Ireland and Rome.
In 2000 we headed off to Canada where we bought an old motorhome (which we later swapped for a fifth wheel and pickup), travelled to Alaska, British Columbia and Alberta before returning to Oz for family celebrations. In 2001 we headed back to Canada, picked up our wheels and continued to the USA, passing through the northern states before heading back to Canada around the Great Lakes. We continued eastward all the way to Newfoundland and then back to New Brunswick. We were just about to cross the border into Maine on 9/11 so our travel plans to visit New York and Washington were disrupted. Instead we headed back to Quesnel in British Columbia where we stayed for three months, experiencing a white Christmas for the first time.
We returned to USA in 2006 to check out New York and Washington DC, catching up with family and friends in Canada as well.
2009 saw us in Holand Belgium and Northern France, checking out a lot of World War I sites and following the story of John's great uncle Cecil who was killed in action near Ypes.
The following year saw us on the P&O ship Artemis cruising from Acapulco in Mexico through the Panama Canal to Barbados and then up the Amazon River to Manaus and back to Barbados - Maria's daughter Kerry worked on this ship as photography manager. Later that year we also spent two weeks in Japan with Maria's son Angus and daughter-in-law Anna.
In August we will be heading back to the USA to buy another fifth wheel and pickup and continue to explore as many states as we can. We have been lucky enough to secure a five year multiple-entry visa so our plans are very open-ended at this stage. Let the fun begin!
