the shame is the restaurants ! the menu is very poor , the service very bad , and the food ...

furniture About Arthur de la Salle's furniture. The sofa's I believe belonged to his mother who had also resided on various plantations. Some other furnishings as well. There was an original dining room and chairs that had belonged to him. The round tables and chairs that were later placed in that room were reproductions. He mentioned that he had found out that the Greens had two round tables in the room instead of one. There also was a wonderful painting of his ancestor in what I called his little library. He had some very good and rare books and also in the foyer there was a Meissen clock displayed when entering to the right. Many paintings, like that one of the boys, of Springfield Plantation and of the Galleon were painted by Arthur . So some people who attended the auctions ( I understand his possessions were auctioned off) were really lucky and others have purchased good reproductions. Unfortunately what did not happen was that some of his possessions remained with Springfield Plantation. That was something he had wished for.
thank you Mr.Ken I was born in Lang nicknam Gung ,i am currently living and working in ho chi minh city .I happened across travelblog ,i sincerely thank you very much Mr Ken ,thank you for doing good things for uor village
nice to see your post im a vietnamese and im very pleased you enjoyed trung vit lon. Most westerners do not enjoy it very much because of the unappealing sight of the half matured duck embryo. I am rather amazed when i read that you ate dog meat. I would think it unbearable for westerners to even try this dish as it is a most beloved pet animal in the whole world.
the katu girl from chinabeach orphanage Thank God for the internet! Thank God for Amarica! and Thank God for all the people who really cared for me and saved me from the war zones. I am alive and well today because of you the missionaries, the soldiers, and the will of God who has other purposes for me and a long happy life is what i need since the day i was born.I am proud to be a christian, an american, a widow, and an independent thinker. I am grateful to learn everything about God, the people, and the world that god has created for us all to live and enjoy until the day he decided to return to us again. That's all i have to say at this time. Sarah/muon.
Ruth Smith and the China Beach Orphanage My mother Ruth Smith was the hostess for teams from the China Beach Orphanage in Viet Nam. The teams were composed of those who needed open heart surgery or who were looking to be adopted. We lived in Redondo Beach, California. We would pick up the teams at the airport, keep them in our home and sometimes take them to Disneyland. I have reconnected with Cong who was a little girl who was the only survivor in her village when it was attacked. I wonder what ever happened to a girl named Trai who came for open heart surgery and was adopted by an American family named Kramer. Her American name was Sarah Kramer. Please pass my meassage and information on to Stanley Smith. God bless! Bill Shuler
Hello Hello Bon,

Hello Larry,
You should go to Vietnam. With your experience, you would have a good time. I think you would be amazed how much Vietnam has changed and is changing every day. Yet, you go out in the country and it is much the same.
I leave for VN the 16th for a month. Not long enough but I have to return anyway.
Yours,
Kent
Congratulations Stan!! Just read your entry on my blog. It is amazing how many people have read the blog and have been brought together. I am so happy your search was successful.
Yours,

Dinh thi Muon found! Just a note to say that thanks to Mr. Kent Converse and many people around the United States and in Vietnam I was able to find Dinh thi Muon. She was adopted from the China Beach (My Khe) orphanage in 1972 by a family in the United States and changed her name to Sarah. She is now living in Hawaii and I have talked with her on the telephone. It has been a long 31 year search. I would also like to thank Mr. Ha for trying to find information on her in Vietnam. Even though you did not have success, Mr. Ha, I really appreciate the effort you made. Thank you so much for trying.
stationed @ hai van pass 67-68 Hello, i was stationed @ hai van pass in 67-68 with the usmc on hill 724, that would be the one on the east or ocean side of the village. Doesn't appear to be anything on the mountain top anymore but i remember the bunkers & the village. The hwy was one lane but now i see it has been widened to two lane, i think the army did this not to long after i left. Ialso see from my surfing the internet that they have now built a tunnel thru the mtns. Enjoyed the pictures & i would love to visit there myself. SEMPER FI

Air Force also at China Beach Orphanage I was stationed at Danang in the Air Force from April 1968 to March 1969. Although my squadron was restricted to base I got permission from my Squadron Commander and Wing Commander to visit some Vietnamese families in Danang City. I also visited the China Beach Orphanage and helped repair some small things that needed it. I will never forget the joy I had in meeting folks who knew how to love and serve their Savior and Lord. I even went to a Vietnamese Church service with a dear Christian family. One family in Danang City gave me a wonderful book with beautiful pictures and poetic writing about "Our Beloved Vietnam". I pray for the Church at Danang frequently.
Dinh Thi Muon While stationed at DaNang AB, 1966-1967, I spent many off-duty hours at the China Beach Orphanage. The Director at the time was Dang Ngoc Cang and his wife Duyen (the parents of Dr Minh and Dr Son). My wife and I really wanted to adopt one of the orphans, Dinh Thi Muon, but for whatever reason it didn't happen. We have often wondered what happened to Muon. I still carry her picture with me 43 years later. I also have may photos of the other orphans taken on Tet, 1967. Do Ha, Nghiep, Nam or Ninh remember Muon and could they tell me what happened to her? She was about 7 years old at the time.
Kent, do you have a spare DVD? It would be great to show at our church. Also could you send me Stan Smith's email, I have a couple of questions to ask him about the church at DaNang. It may have been one our augmented Chapel choir from DaNang sang at during Christmas, 1966. After the service we met with the church choir to share further music. I even have a recording of the Hallelujah Chorus in Vietnamese!
This is my 12 visit to Vietnam
My current mission in Vietnam is going to the home villages of all my neices and nephews that have helped me in Vietnam
In 2005 I biked from Hanoi to Saigon. Probably the greatest trip I ever experienced.
I look forward to returning to Vietnam and enjoying the people and land of Vietnam.
I will be staying with my former Rotary Exchange Student Trang and her husband Huan and daughter Sarah.
I keep a bike at Trang's house and will be biking around Saigon on short trips.
